so i was sleepin real good, maybe even having a nice dream, i dont remember.. then all the sudden i wake up for no reason, and smell burning plastic.. i look around my room and then look out one of my bedroom windows and see smoke rolling, where my truck is parked.. didnt think too much of it, but went outside to see what it was.. sure enough, the fan shroud and one of the radiator hoses was on fire.. the battery charger i had on my battery caught on fire and was probably goin atleast for an hour(around 5am)... at first i didnt know what to do, so i grabbed some rags that were laying around to try and swat it out and shit, but that didnt help much.. so i went to the garage fridge to see if there was any flour or any sort of powder stuff in it, but there wasnt, so i went inside and found some cornmeal and went back outside and threw it all over the place and it put it out, and i knocked the charger on the ground and beat it up, lol.. it was my fault though.. so nothing to blame but myself.. **** it.. motor is shot anyway, but its a good thing it didnt get on that because my intake is off... KABOOM it would have went, lollerskates :-\

truck = 23478233934
me = -0
essentially = ****ing uber pwnd!

:dif where that hole is on the fan shroud is where the charger was on fire at.. good thing it didnt fall backwards onto the motor where i have my intake and stuff off..i suck at life

Yes, keep a fire extinguisher in the house, garage, and car.

Because it was just burning the plastic and not any certain type of fuel/oil I would think that a standard fire extinguisher would of done the job.

What type of problems have you had with the truck?

Scarrell

yeah i know you were jokin, but i know i need one also.. and yes ive had nothin but trouble with it since day one.. the rims dont hold air even after the tire places have put sealent in them, over $300 in tires down the drain.. my main wire harness was ate up from the tire, since i have no fender wells, and i didnt realize til it was too late that they harness was hanging so low, then it caused many many running issues, but i finally got it fixed.. (just rewired it and extended some wires), and it ran fine for awhile then my intake started leaking and i just let it be for a month or so til i got the cash to get a gasket kit, and then me and a buddy were changing it out and somehow one of us accidently dropped a bolt in the intake without knowing and we put it all back together and i started it and it just ate the bolt up and now it sits in my driveway, with flat tires, mowed grass all over it, and other random bull shit.. if i could just find a bare 4.3 motor, then ill be back in business.. the stereo is probably worth more than the truck lol... ill have another truck eventually, i do like s10's, and id like to get another one of the same year, so i can switch stuff from my current one to the new one and all that jazz.

The intake gaskets are famous for blowing on the gm's, the new gaskets are alot better, and as you know they are easy to change, you just have to be careful with not dropping things down the motor.

Sounds like all your problems are from (upgrades) that people have done, thats the problem with buy a customized truck, alot of the time the work is questionable.

The intake gasket isnt a big deal, a decent shop could of fixed it for what, 200-300 bucks?

yes. it was all from prior "upgrades" from past owners.. the work is alright, but everything from 96 has been ignored it seems.. tie rods, bushings, keeping things lubed, just your basic tune ups and shit like that they ignored or were cheap on, and since it was my daily.. all the problems occurred within a year after i bought it, because i put it through all the elements of weather and different terrains..etc... essentially its my fault that i didnt give the truck a good look and all that jazz.. if i could get a decent job, im more than sure it wont take but a couple grand to get it running new.. after i get a motor, im mostly worried about the rims, as i cannot stand airing some of the tires up every day, for some reason, it seems that sometimes a tire that leaks one day, and then the next day it doesnt seem to leak at all...bu id like to get a 18" and 20" combo, but that wont happen for a looooong time, and i also need to get the shitty sunroof fix the guy before me put in..

Don't ask me why, but 6 years over the last few decades seem to have been really bad... 1976, 1986, 1996 vehicles just seem to be filled with problems... I've had a few older S-10s with no problems and I love the fact that just about all the body parts are interchangable from differing years... So yeah it really sucks that you've had this many problems :(

CaptainPioneer
08-15-08, 07:04 AM
well My Dodge Ram is a 96 and the only problems I had was a bad fuel Rail which contributed to burning out my catalytic converter and fuel injectors... But other than that... My truck has been problem free...

Don't take this wrong way, but I seriously doubt the 305 is going to make you happy, it's barely a set-up from a 4.3.

I'd do a 350, or just go back with another 4.3. The 305 is a decent engine, but doesnt isnt exactly a power house.

Well sure if you could find a 350 in good running shape for $100, but don't put down that little 305 quite so fast either... They actually have a lot of potential.
Before you drop it in go have that that thing bored 30 over and get some new pistons, rods, port and polish with all new goodies in the top and I'll tell you what... That lil 305 will scream... and since it's lighter than the 350 you've got a weight advantage ;)

all that work and you got a lightweight 350

Basically yes, but with a ton more torque... I did all this to my old 1984 Trans-Am with a 305 and those were considered to be the dog years for the F-bodies... Had a custom made 383rear for it so it would do street and track, best quarter was 12.26 (without the nitrous) with street rubber.
So like with any motor, the 305 has potential if you put the money into it.

Just like any other good build up as it should be :happy055:
If making a badass car outta nothing was easy everybody would have one... Oh that's right, according to some kids it is easy... Fatpipe (not full exhaust), Tuners rims, Intake, and stickers and a Honda will do 8's in the quarter LOL :p

update and what not.. scratched the v8 altogether and have a 4.3 in my truck already and running, out of a 99 Blazer with 60,??? miles... runs fine...etc.. a tire or two is square though since it sat so long, now it will sit again til its warm enough to drive it around to get the tires warmed up to even em out. im not driving around in this cold crappy weather, because it will take like 4 times longer and all that.. but on a side note i may sell it or trade it for a Car.. yes a car.. i never liked cars(even though ive had a couple before).. because of trunk rattle.. but i put my system in the womans car and ive grown used to the car thing again and may go that direction eventually.

Theres no doubt you can make one fast...

Before you drop it in go have that that thing bored 30 over and get some new pistons, rods, port and polish with all new goodies in the top and I'll tell you what...

The only real reason to bore the block is to clean up the cylinder walls, the little bit of added displacement isnt going to gain you much, if anything at all...

The stock 305 heads arent even worth porting...

That lil 305 will scream... and since it's lighter than the 350 you've got a weight advantage

Theres no doubt you can make them scream, but I'm not really sure its worth it...

Thats why the 305 to 350 swap is so popular, it gets you more for less!!!
