What's up everybody, My name is Frank and I'm an alcoholic. Just kidding... my name's really Brandon:) My nickname is Heff (comes from the first part of my last name) I have just become a member of this forum today/tonight/this morning whatever you wanna call it since its about 3 am here, and Im glad to see its alot more active than the Beyond Audio/Resonant Engineering site. Here's a little about me:Im an 18 year old college student from central New York studying telecommunications. I know the basics of car audio like how to install a deck, amp and subwoofer, to determine whether the impedence and wattage of a subwoofer will be compatible with an amp, the difference between rms/nominal watts and peak/max watts, etc. Hate to hear things like "Yeah man, this 2000 watt Legacy amp's better than your jl 1000/1 amp, its twice the wattage" lol. but Im definately not an expert. That is why I joined this forum to get some advice. I dont have a jl audio 1000/1 amp yet, but what I do have is an Earthquake 200dhc Mark II amp (older version of the phd2 Destroyer with same specs, but a different cover) and an 18" Beyond Audio Inhuman Subwoofer. The problem is that the seal that holds the metal basket to the spider has come loose all the way around. Sound still comes out but it is distorted unless I hold it together where the seal broke. Since I am no expert I am unsure if it could be as simple as regluing it or if i need a complete re-cone. Here is all I know about the sub:Dual 2 ohm voice coils (copper I believe), and double soft spiders ( non mirror). I have also included a couple pics if that helps. If anybody has any advice on the proper glue to use(if its that simple), what where or how to fix it, recommended dimensions and airspace for a sealed box, or any information at all on the sub it would be GREATLY appreciated.
As for that jl audio 1000/1 amp check out www.sound4cheap.com they are sold for only $50 and its not a rip off. With their system it takes a long time to recieve but is definately worth the wait. How it works:Once paid for you are added to a waiting list by order of purchase. Once the list gets to 20 people it is full. After that when a 21st person does it the 1st person on the list gets their amp shipped to them ( and shipping is free), after a 22nd person does it the 2nd person gets theirs and so on. I am currently the 6th person on the list and the list is 15 people long, so after 11 more people do it I will get my amp!!! I paid and was added to the list in september of 2004 and am about half way through but once again it will definately be worth the wait. Not only that but if you know alot of people interested you could all do it at once and get your amp twice as quick, and if you know 20 people then you could get it instantly. The more people that buy the faster it goes so tell all your friends.Also since summer time is coming the list will be filling faster now. ok I figured out the part names on the speaker. The seal that broke loose was the seal between the spider and the frame. so i guess my question now is can i just glue it back together if sound still comes out and it will make it all ok, and if i can are there any stores that carry loctite adhesive prism 401 or prism 410 preferably. Last of all anybody know which is better of the 2?

You should be able to use CA glue found at Hobby Stores to reglue the spider to the basket.

Just be careful not to deform the spider while doing it.

Also dont use the sub until it is fixed. This breakage will allow the sub to move non linear and may damage the voice coils.

Glad to see some people making the jump from the BA board, its dead as hell there- with the exception of Stany...

that's pretty much it. what he said.
let the glue set up overnight (24 hrs) before use after gluing.
break it in again and see if it holds. if it doesn't, talk to RE and see what cement they suggest, or call a shop like circuitshop.com who rebuilds speakers and talk to them.
