I noticed a strong electrical burning smell coming from my trunk and I assumed it was my subs' voice coils, but it was not. It was the negative post on my Arc 1000.2t It is all black and the plastic is just slightly melted. I looked it over and can't find anything that could have caused this. No stray wires or bad grounding, nothing. The positive and negative wires are firmly crimped in terminal spades and the protective colored sheath is in perfect shape on each. I'm scared to turn on my system again for fear of blowing something. I sure am glad I drove home from work with the stereo off!!! I don't need any fires back there :)
Anyone have ideas what could have happened? Kiki??

Sorry about the double-post. Since I finally realized the problem was with the amp I made a reference in the last post of my thread saying I moved it to this forum.

how loud were you playing the subs when this happened? Unless the terminal shorted out to the basket or something odd like that it may have just been a matter of the wire not being able to handle the current and getting too hot.

I was playing the subs pretty loud. The gain was conservatively set, my bass level was 0 on the HU and zero on the remote knob, with the bass boost slightly turned up. I cleaned the terminal and tightened the screw really well and haven't had any problems since, but I'm still concerned about it.
I double-checked the grounding point and the other wires and I don't see any problems. I believe the spade may have come loose, but I'm not sure.
Any suggestions?

keep it tight and tape over any exposed metal.
