Well, I've installed many-a-amplifier before, but I've never had to personally run the remote wire...I understand stripping a piece of the factore remote turn on wire and wrapping it, then it (it being Crutchfield's advisory) says to run the amplifier turn-on to the red power wire? I don't understand what's being said here. Could someone please help?

The remote wire runs from the existing remote on the HU to the amplifier directly. It's simple.

Connect a remote turn on lead wire to your "power antenna" or "remote" lead from the head unit. Run the RCA cables, and remote lead, from the head unit, down the middle of the car, or down the opposite side of the car from the power cable. The remote lead will serve as a turn-on for your amp(s). This doesn't have to be very thick wire, 16 gauge is fine. If you have room, you can usually remove the sill plate, and lift the edge of the carpet, and run the cable(s) there, proceeding to the back of the car. Be sure not to put them anywhere they will get crushed by anything. Run all the wires to where the amp will be installed.

Connect the remote lead wire to the amps rem. lead wire in... usually between the + and - wires....

Hope this helps,
Dave

I thought it was directly from the stock remote straight to the amp...damn crutchfield and it's confusing ways!

What do you mean stock remote?

You take a wire (can be speaker wire too) and run it from the head units remote lead turn on. It is clearly prtined on the wire, or connection points...

Take that wire and run it straight back to your amp (S) remote lead wire input. Also clearly labeled.

Does that help?

lol i'm not sure what you are cofused about, sorry...

I wonder if stock remote, the mean something like a factory power antenna. Or maybe a wire connected to the ignition?

You want to avoid running the remote wire to the "power antenna" output. With it in that, you will only be able to use the amp when the FM/AM radio is on. The amp will switch off when in cd mode.

If you are using the stock head unit and the amp has speaker level inputs, you shouldn't need to hook up the remote wire. If you do need to, the best way is to run a wire to either the nearest 12volt source (via a manual switch) or to the ignition for the amp to be switched on when you start the car.

i thought most power ant. go up regardless when car is started, or if the hu is turned on at all, i know everyone i've seen is like that...

Ahh, well, that depends on the car I suppose. But all of the aftermarket HU's I've seen have it where it sends power throught the power antenna output only when the radio is on.

I was a valet for a few days, but never came across a car with a power antenna that didn't extend before the radio was switched on.

I think most factory ones do, but there are some that go down in CD mode.

yes it does depend on the car, that'd make sense. Hmm well i would rather not run my rem. lead off the ant. anyway, seems kinda stupid...

I don't see what the damn problem is here...

What exactly do you need to know phile?

We've showed you how to wire it up, and such, so is this helping?

If I had a power ant, that might help lol. I drive a 92 ford ranger that was once a work truck :)

My nearest 12v source is only about 2 1/2 feet away, being the cigarette lighter/pluggy-inny thing.

What I meant by stock remote was the HU's remote turn on.

The part I was confused about: I read somewhere that after running the wire from the remote turn on in the HU, to run it to a red power wire. I'm not sure what the hell that meant, but I don't really care anymore. You guys are a great help! Now I just gotta figure out how the hell to get my dash piece out without breaking it (it's old and brittle)...

And hi fishy, do I know you, or were you just being polite and saying hello? In either case...HI!

THANKS to everyone!

Glade to hear that you are no longer confused Brandon.

You will find this board to be of much help in the future.

I'm at ECoustics ALOT. I learned about this site from GlassWolf. (I believe he's the co-founder or something of the like?)

You guys sure are alot faster than they are over there...and usually more helpful--save for a few people.

Fishy, I just realized you're from ECoustics!
