I'm looking for a good/cheap spl sub... no bigger than a 12, but would like a 10. I'm only willing to pay up to the maximum of $120. It needs to be able to handle 800 watts rms, and be able to be wired to 4 ohms.

Alpine Type r 12"... There are a couple of sites that offer the sub for 110, shipped.
I have 2 of these and they hit pretty damn hard...and sound amazing, read the review.

The type R... the old one, can only handle like 300 watts rms. I would break one pretty fast. They are good subs though! But they won't beat the set up I have know, and I'm just wanting something to play around with to see how loud I can get.

Is the 800w amp rms or max power. Does it acctually put out that much or is that an over-rating. What type of amp is it? Why so scimp on the price if your wanting something to do wonders? Just wondering...

Kicker CompVR's are fairly cheap and can go fairly loud. I believe the 12" handles 800 rms.

Yes, it is 800 watts rms. It is the Rockford P8002, 800 watts rms x 1 at 4 ohms.
I'm just wanting something that will beat most speakers in spl... don't care about sq. I already have a system know, sq/spl. I'm just wanting something louder, so when my friends are mouthing, I can slap the 1 sub in, and watch there jaw hit the floor.
The reason it is so cheap, is I'm in school, and don't have a job.
I was looking at a Kicker 12l7, yes I know about the problems some people have had withem. Its a factory renew, for $129, and I know they get loud. Just wondering if anyone was wanting to sell a cheap sub that will be for what I'm looking for.
P.s, I know that DD is a pretty good spl sub, but I don't know a lot about them... except for the DD9917 and subs like that. Is that sub you're talking about any good?

Where can you get a 12L7 for $129? That's a pretty good snag even with the reliability issues.

I have experience with L7's. Ive sent about 4 back to kicker for warranty and have had to solder a tinsel lead back on. I would def. look into something else. Maybe a comp vr?

look for an 18" Comp Vr's or an 18" W3... the Comp VR is more SPL oriented and the JL Audio W3 is more SQL oriented.. either would be a semi cheap choice.... maybe look into some older RF HX2's? um.... older Earthqauke subs, Cerwin Vega Vega series subs, older Soundstream subs, Planet Audio has a cheap version of the Cerwin Vega "Stroker".. while some say PA suck and stuff(also not made by Boss, i mean hell PA used to make tube amps..).. i dont think they are too bad.. im running two of their subs for temp, and they do just fine..so.. you can research on these subs and stuff.

If you're gunna get a CVR, get the 05' model..not the old ones. The new ones handle more power and they can get damn loud. I'm runnin my CVR 15 right now and it has no problem gettin loud off 500 rms. You don't need an 18" to get loud. Put your work into a good box, and that'll really make the sub shine..trust me.

ill snap your neck... nah you dont need an 18" to get loud at all.. but it was just an idea..

Thats what I'm running now, 2 Rockford HX2's, they get pretty damn loud... but not loud enough for me.
So far, the l7 is still the best for the money, I mean... I know it will get loud as hell!

Instead of "I need better subs" or "I need more power" to get louder, why not consider improving your box. Can I ask what enclosure you're running the HX2's in? From what i've heard, these subs are able to get plently loud, assuming you're running them in the proper enclosure of course.

I agree with audiobass10 totally. I've seen HX2's hit over 150 more than once.

Well, this is in an extend cab truck... so there's not a lot of room. The box is sealled... wich hurts it about 3 db's.
I'll let you look at my system and see what you think.

Well, realistically, you could see a gain as high as 9 dB with a ported box. Of course it would be a competition only setup, but still is a large gain.

Yup, but I don't want it justt for comp's.
You've saw HX2's hit in the 150's, really? What was the setup... was the box like 8 cubic ft or something?:-) Mine are loud... but not near that loud!

The one I remember off the top of my head is 71buickfreak's convertable. 154 dB.

Damn!
I wish I was just hitting in the 140's... but in the 150's? I guess he had a lot of cabin gain though.:-) lol
