Here’s what my trunk looks like ....

There is a well cover; it wasn’t on for the pic.

I want to be able to slide the box to the back so it can boundary load and slide it back to its position in the pic when I need the trunk.

I need a way to slide it and lock it in either position.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm having trouble understanding you. Is the box in the pic where you want it to be or is that all the way back?

Build some sort of track system with sliders bolted to the floor and attach the box to the track and make some sort of lock to hold it into each position.

I thought you were a machinist?

I would sugguest some 1" ID SAE 841 Broze bushings. Then some 1" cold rolled for a way.

This isnt something you want to spend a ton of money on.

The downfall is it would be visible....

Other than that goto Lowes/Home Depot and look at tracks for dresser drwaers and such. Maybe you can get lucky there.

Hi Ryan!

Tool & Die actually, close enough.

I have some "basic" ideas on how to do it.

What I was hoping was that some of you who have gone to shows & such have seen this done before. Guess I'll be the first!

Winters coming so the box I have will be in the car for the season so I want to keep it simple. That means some "track" type system will be visible.
Possibly a 1"x2" square tube slotted, dovetailed rails or something keyed.
I will look around the shop & see what’s what. I will poke around Home Depot too.

The SQ between where the box is in the pic and when it's moved back to boundary load is significant.
I use my trunk at least twice a week so this project will be worth it.

Thanks amigos!
