The name is Colin. I am a senior in high school and am in the process of making one killer sounding car, hopefully. I drive a 92 Pontiac Grand Am that I bought for 1200 dollars last year at the beginning of spring break, yes I know it is 14 years old and about as close to a piece of shit as possible but it works. Anyways, since I got the car I have put brand new 4x6 Alpines in the front doors and new 6x9 Alpines in the back seat. I've also put a new head unit in the dash to replace the crappy Panasonic that was in there, it is also Alpine. My original plan was to do all Alpine, but since I heard Kicker I thought it would be the better route to go. So I need some help in deciding. Should I go two 12 inch Kicker Comp VRs or with two 12 inch Alpine Type-S? They are both about the same price and both come in the box. The kickers are in a ported Kicker box while the Alpines are just in a sealed box. Give me some feed back.

First let me welcome you to the board :)
Second, there is nothing wrong with any choice of vehicle when it comes to a sound system... Don't believe me, just look at some of the vehicles used for competitions. A lot of them buy cheap cars/ trucks/ vans only to put that extra money into the system.
Now on to your subwoofer selection. Your best bet is not to buy a preloaded enclosure the way you are as many of them aren't that great. The subwoofers they put in them can be pretty good, but you'll get a far better response out of them if you build the enclosure yourself or have someone build it for you.
Kicker does have a lot of quality products but if you're looking at Alpine take a step up to the Type R's.

I don't want to wait forever to get my subs because I only have a crappy job and only make like 250 a pay check. Which every other paycheck is going to go to either insurance which is 80 or my cell phone which is 50. Anyways, I've use Crutchfield for reviews and Type-R like you suggested, has killer reviews, everyone likes them, but that would be another paycheck I would have to wait. Woofersetc.com I have seen alot of people post from them, are they reliable when buying products? I know they have a huge selection I was just wondering if anyone has had a bad review of them. I know Crutchfield has a return policy unlike them, and I've heard basically all good things from Crutchfield. What is your opinion on MA Audio. A friend of mine is selling me like a 750 watt amp of theirs for 150 in a couple weeks. I am also thinking about buying two 10 inch MTX 4500s in the box with a 500 watt amp from another friend for 300 a couple weeks after that, then turning around and selling his subs to pick up the alpines or kicker. How much do you think the MTXs will pawn for?

first off, take most of those reviews with a grain of salt. mainly because the majority of people giving them dont know shit about car audio. they rave about power acoustics mofo's for christ sake. second, widen your horizons... go into the faq section of the forums and look under the good, bad, and ugly list. this will give you many more options, some being better and cheaper than the ones your limiting yourself to. as for experience with these brands, thats what this board is here for. usually someone on here has delt with any brand you may have questions about.
as for woofersetc.com, i have delt with them a couple times before. never had a problem, but then again, never tried returning anything. the problem with them is, they are not authorized to carry the majority of what they sell, which means you dont get the manufacturer's warranty.

Myself I like the high end Ma Audio units, but their little stuff is junk so I guess that brings up the question of which model amp as to if it's worth it or not.
Now I'll give you the same advice we give a lot of people here. It's better to save up for a little while and get what you want, then to regret it later... especially if it's just a few weeks. I am one of the many dealers on this forum and I can tell you from experience that I've seen people save an entire summers worth of paychecks to get what they really want.

Ok, but still question remains unanswered. Is www.woofersetc.com a reliable place to buy audio equipment? And also, does anyone around here know a member that lives near Evansville, IN? It is like at the southern most point of Indiana, like a 20 min drive to Kentucky if you catch traffic right.

We've had a lot of people here buy from woofersect.com but and from what I've seen they have had pretty good luck with them. The only downfall is that they are Not authorized distributors for everything they sell including some of the stuff they claim they are authorized for, so you may get only a warranty from them and not the manufacturer or the item may have no warranty at all. But a lot of people will over look that to get a better product at a better price.

I wouldnt bother with buying this stuff to try and sell it, you will loose money unless you literally get it dirt ass cheap ;)
If you interested int he kickers, good. THe CVR's look to be decent. Im not fond of the Type S alpine. Also look into the Cerwin Vega VMax subs, they look to be very potent subs!

Also, remember that each company generally has its "niche" and good products in the market. I would consider Alpine to have higher quality HUs and processors than their speakers (although the subs aren't bad). Really what I'm getting at is that by going all one company in your car, you'll be cutting corners on yourself since most companies don't make all their different products to the same quality.

this discussion should go to general discussion, and not in this area.

i love my Type R.. you will see alot of rant and rave about them, because they are great budget beaters with a little bit of sq.. mine sounds great on metal and rock, and can get down pretty well on rap... my box is 3cf tuned to 30hz, and the sub is powered by a JBL 600.1 and im running all 4gauge Knu Konceptz wire for it.. sounds great, couldnt be happier... it takes the abuse all day.. ofcourse i play it safe also.. dont crank it all day:-p and be careful with the gains.

Welcome to CAC and since there is a lot of advice on this board it's not really necessary for me to chime in with my two bits.... I too live in Indiana though I'm up by Michigan but it's nice to see another hoosier on here. As far as I know (my memory sucks though) we make two on this board :P

I want to post something and make a point. My car has just recently had a bad transmission problem and I might soon be in the market for another car, although the money will be very little. So until then, the money fopr audio is put on a halt. I'll just be chiming in from time to time to put in my two cents audio wise.
