I purchased a used amplifier online. I got it, and it was DOA. No big deal, guy I bought it from said he will pay to have it fixed. I do a search online for amplifier repair centers, and one I come across is AmpRepairCenter.com.
Checked out their site andgot an estimate, told what my problem was usually takes 1-2 weeks to fix and ship back. I ship the amp to them and they e-mail me on August 24th saying the problem and cost, and I tell them to go ahead with the repair. I have a car show that I am leaving for on September 14th, so I figure 3 weeks is more then enough time to fix it (hell, it could probably be done in a day or two).
Two weeks pass and I want to check on the amp, see the status, so I e-mail them. Two days later still no reply (even though they guaranteed e-mail response within 1 business day). So I decide to call them, no answer, so I leave a detailed message including number. Two days later, no call back.
I have since called at least 15-20 times, never receiving an answer. I have left numerous message, around 5 or so, all including my number and full details. I have called throughout the day, so it isn't like I just happen to be calling on their lunch period every time. They are open 10-6, so I called usually every two hours or so.
So here I am sitting waiting for my $800 amplifier, and I have NO way of knowing what is going on. They ignore all e-mail and phone calls, and don't return messages.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. THEY ARE GARBAGE.

I just got a reply via e-mail from them. They said it will be finished tomorrow or wednesday. I told them I am leaving wednesday night for a car show in Atlanta. I said I want them to overnight it to my hotel room. We will see what happens.
No, Chris, I didn't pay anything up front.
They are in Akron, OH. I will let you know what happens from here and if I need a friend to stop by ;)

thats just a 45 min stroll from my house. i wouldn't mind knocking on a door and asking a question or two.
and if it all does turnout okay, and they go a good job fixing it, its nice to know there's some place close to home to have something fixed later on.

If your super desperate I can do it for ya, for the gas only. Tomorrow night or Wednesday night and mail it Thursday in the morning...
Or maybe Bill can take a trip over there to let this mofo know its serious ;)

UPDATE
I got an e-mail on Monday the 11th saying my amplifier would be done the next day or wednesday. I say ok and want them to overnight it to my hotel, and I will pay the extra shipping cost. Another e-mail arrives wednesday saying THEY ARE JUST STARTING TO REPAIR IT. They had it for over 3 weeks and were just now getting around to repairing it.
That's fine, I figure it will be done within a few days, and I didn't need it for the show since Joe was awesome enough to loan me his! Almost a week rolls around and today I contact them. It still isn't finished. I told them it is totally unacceptable to have an amplifier for over a month and not have it repaired.
They sent me a money request from PayPal for $30 to cover "Minimum Bench Fee". They are shipping it back once I pay this $30, UNFIXED. This means, THEY HADN'T EVEN STARTED REPAIRS.
I can not stress this enough, AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Tell everyone you know, please! If you post on other message boards, LINK THIS THREAD! I want everyone to know what a terrible company AMPREPAIRCENTER.COM is!
A month later, $45, and I will HOPEFULLY be getting my amplifier back, n the same exact condition it was sent in.
Total bullshit.

very sorry to hear.
how did the competition go?
Chris from Washington
09-19-06, 06:59 PM
You know I think I've heard of scams like this before, they take your equipment and then hold it for like a month until you complain. Then say you can get it back as long as you pay the 'bench fee' even tho they didn't do anything to it.
I'm sure I've seen this on some consumer fraud show or something.
I would pay the 30 with a credit card, and also contact that states attorney general and file a complaint against the company.
ill be in akron imma check out that address tomorrow. but that sucks dude.

Just wanted to update. I sent money for them to ship my amp back last wednesday. It is one day transit from them to me. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY AMP.
I sent them an e-mail asking where the hell my amp is, and of course no response.
What kind of legal actin can I take if they keep my amp?
Chris from Washington
09-27-06, 06:20 PM
What state are they located? Try contacting the state attorney's office and file a complaint.
Since you said you didn't use a credit card, that makes things more difficult for you.
Chris from MI
09-27-06, 06:27 PM
Screw legal action, lets just go blow the damn building up!
Justin from Detroit

They are in Ohio, right near Bill. I used PayPal.
Chris, we can't blow up the building, my amp is inside!
Chris from Washington
09-27-06, 06:46 PM
Well you can at least try paypal and see what they will do. (I doubt much) but at least file a complaint.

If I was you I would contact the police department in the town where they are located and report theft.
That and pay pal are the first steps.
Better yet I would call them and tell them it better be to you by a certain day or they can expect you at their door step with the police on another certain date.
Or have Bill drop in for you, retreive the amp, kick them in the nuts and mail it to you.
This is total bullshit...

If you do get the amp back, I would still file a complaint with that link I provided.
If it turns out that this place is a scam, you'll have a record on file. Might be able to get the money you sent them back if their attorney general goes after them.

MONTH AGO. An amp repair takes to-three days max for most repairs. Tell them you want it back NOW. They will probably never even start, since they had mine for 5 weeks and never did. Terrible fucking company.

Well Justin, you're not alone.. I sent my $400 dollar amp to them for repair, they sent it back after many weeks (of course I had to call every couple days and email), the emails were being answered fairly quickly for awhile. I paid 160 bux, and didnt hear anything for a couple weeks and filed a paypal claim. Then he called and bitched about that.. once I took the block off, he shipped it and then after getting it back, it worked for 20 mins, then just started blowing fuses. I sent it back, after 1.5 more months, and many times of calling for updates, Scott asked if it would be ok to swap another board into mine from another amp in there area, i of course, said sure. Then a couple more weeks went by and he stated that he would be sending it out. He hasnt returned a call or email since then. I finally am threatening action, but havent settled on what.
If anyone wants to go there in person with me, let me know. I live in mentor, only about 50 mins away.

I sent an amp to these bozo's 5 months ago and the communication is awful.
When I killed my van gogh about 5 months ago, I shipped it to them. After calling about literally 20 times, and actually talking like 4 times, I finally got it back, but not before filing a claim with paypal and then having to resolve the claim to get my amp from amp repair center. I got it back, and it worked for 20 mins, then died again. I shipped it back, had to call literally 7 times and finally scott there said he was going to swap a spare board into my amp and fix it once and for all.
After that, he called to say it was done but that he wouldnt be shipping it because he saw the paypal claim thing, but didnt realize it was resolved. I explained that it was, he admitted he was wrong and I have not been able to get him to call or email me back about it. I know that the guy at caraudiocentral filed another BBB complaint, because there used to be 1 complaint and now there are two. I left a vm with him today that I will be "pursuing action" if he doesnt call me back after today. Stupid paypal wont let me file another claim for this idiot, and I'm not sure if I want to drive to akron to go to this place by myself...
Anyone still up for a ride to this idiot's place?

That figures.. actually now that I look at google maps, it is only about .75 mi from where my aunt and uncle live, and literally about 200 ft from where they used to live! I know exactly where it is now, next to some old restaurant/bar place.
I'll be sure to pay a visit to them the next time I go to Akron..
