car audio is a very opinionated hobby.

there is no right or wrong when going with equipment. it's about the persons taste

I think bias in inherent in any audio circles, but especially car audio. You don't know how many times I've encountered contestants/car audio salespeople, even friends, who insiste that their particular brand is THE only or THE best brand for whatever reason. Alpine, Focal, MB Quart, Kenwood.

What I hate is people who display the logo of their equipment on their car--like big "ALPINE" window film. Do I really care that you're an automotive advertisement or that you feel the compunction to have to flagrantly show it off? It just makes whatever brand that much less appealing.

And this doesn't just happen with individuals. Older managers of car audio stores are usually the worst. They have their personal preferences and make sure that you know it, and in doing so, malign your equipment. That's what really turned me off about competeing in the '80's. I was never into the elaborate cosmetic installations--just structurally secure quality equipment using basic system design.

Yep, just go with what you like. Just don't go stock and don't get sucky brands. Otherwise, get what you like, can afford, and most important have fun.

This is why people should resort to choosing based on objectivism, the real thing that separates the real deal from the pretenders ;) The field of audio is too well known, the right measurements DO exist. There is no reason to have someone try and justify most of the garbage equipment on the market simply based on brand loyalty and vague uneducated subjectivism, especially that of someone you don't even know...
