Well its that time. I need some new tires, but I would like some opinions from you all first.
My car came with these, and they are nice, but I would like something a little better. (they do good with wet or dry, but the SUCK with ANY snow or ice)
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+HX+MXM4&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=25VR7MXM4HXV2&fromCompare1=yes&place=6
I know I want an all season performance tire, with a v or higher speed rating, and good wet / light snow traction (it rains and snows alot here) (tire size 225 50 R17)
These are the two I have found so far, but I will consider other options.

I'll wait to steal your thread until you're done getting some answers. :) I'd like to get some suggestions myself since mine tires are about to go.

The Pilot Sport A/S would be my choice from those. Others may be the Goodrich G-force T/A KDWS, Continental ContiExtremeContact. The Continentals are probably the better tires when taking snow into consideration.

Those BF Goodrich are mean looking, but I can't run them. Unless I bye a new set of rims, (one for summer and one for winter) I am stuck with all seasons. If I get in a wreck during the winter with those its a 500 euro ticket.
AND, they don't make them in the size I need.
The Continental's look nice, but I think I am still leaning towards the Pilot Sports. IMO the pilots are a better looking tire, but I need to check out the specs and rating again before I could decide between the two.

I think you're thinkin about the summer G-force TAs. I'm talkin about these:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+T%2FA+KDWS
But they still aren't in your size. Those Contis would be better in snow, but not as good in dry/wet conditions. Pick your poison.
The newer Bridgestone Potenzas are SOOOO good, but I don't have a clue how the all season models are.

Yeah they do look pretty good.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE960AS+Pole+Position&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=25WR7RE960PP&fromCompare1=yes&place=4
Better rating than the pilot sports, cooler looking tread design, and about 40 bucks a tire cheaper. Hmmmmm, we might have a winner. I wish they had snow and ice ratings, but I think they will do ok.
As I said earlier, I am not set yet, but I have a new front runner. Thanks a ton for the help.

Well I did some more reading, and I am about 50 / 50 between the two.
From what I am hearing the Michelin pilots are better dry traction, but Michelin’s tend to loose their M/S ability after about 15000 miles. Not sure if the pilots will fall into the problem, but its something to keep in mind.
The Bridgestone Potenza seems to be the better all season (M/S) tire, but doesn't handle as well in dry weather.
Jonathan, you don't happen to know of any independent testing on the two do you. The reviews on tirerack.com, are good, but leave a little to be desired.

Don't doubt it. Dry traction and mud/snow traction are pretty much exclusive, hence the fact that there are designs tailored to have a lot of either.
Most of the Michelins I've used or have seen used have had good treadwear characteristics, including performance down the long run. Of course assuming they're rotated as needed and the car is kept aligned, as is the case with making any tire last. But performance tires are performance tires, very few have what you'd consider good treadwear. Most are horrible.
I still feel that Continental to be the best compromise if handling in the snow is a big concern, but you'll trade dry traction for it. Really depends on how much snow you see. I know guys that justify running drag radials on their daily driver, it's all about what you're willing to give up haha.

Myself I'd be going the route of Jonathans suggestions with the Conti's... In an independant road test run by car and driver the conti's came out on top for best over all; Price, wet, dry, snow.... great combo tire:thumbsup

Snow isn't to big of a concern, but I do live on a hill, and my previous tires sucked. So I want something better, but don't want to give up to much dry traction. The roads here are way to much fun for that. :happy055:
Either way, thanks for the help. You all definatly got me pointed in the right direction.

Tirerack has a couple of their own test, with slalom, wet and dry track results

The Pirelli P Zero neros seem to be consistently good performers, I've heard good things about them

Pirelli Pzeros are very good, but pricey... another that I personally like are the Cooper Zeons and not as pricey... great dry traction and decent wet and snow.

Jeremy, I just put a set of these on my son's car, and I am contemplating on putting a set on my car. But only if I upgrade the wheels I have now. I have used only Yokohama's on my son's car and my wifes old car and I couldn't be happier with their performance in wet conditions, and when we had snow here in OK, they handled it very well. And you know the Icy conditions this great state offers, well you could be very happy to know that the predecessors to these tires held up brilliantly through 3 seasons before I replaced them with these new tires. Check them out

i have the pzero nero's on my car for some snow traction, but i recently bout blck steelies with snow tires. i used to have BF GOOD RICH GFORCE kdw's by far the best wet and dry traction, the pzero's suck at dry traction, especially if you have a higher HP car.

Well guys I ordered my tires. It took a while to decide, but I ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenzas. IMO they offered the best mix of wet and dry traction for what I was looking for. Thanks again for all the help. Thanks to you I got exactly what I wanted, and saved some money over my original options.
solacedagony, the post is yours. If you have any questions let them fly.

we could try sticking my tires on your car.
what do ya think?
got room for 12.2" of tire section width in each well?

Hmmm, probably not with the accord, but they would have fit under the back of my S10.

UPDATE.................... I love these tires.
I just drove all the way up my hill, and never realized it was icy. Till I got out, and fell on my ass.
This is the same hill that I couldn't get up last year (nor could my upstairs neighbor) and I had to put the right side tires in the grass to get down. Hell I couldn't make a left hand turn into my drive way last year without sliding sideways. I had to make a right (keeping my tires in the grass) and then cut across from the street on the other side.
So Jonathan, and all you guys that helped. I owe you BIG.

Now you just need to get one more Potenza to cut up and glue to your shoes so you don't fall on your a$$ any more:p lol
