how much might it cost (very general question, i know) to have hood repainted? I've got some spots on the hood where the paint is chipped off.. and a few scratches (scratches could actually be buffed out... but its the part where theres bare metal that bothers me.)

That is a pretty general question cuz it could be anywhere from $150 to $800 pending where you take it, what paint they use, and what prep work you do or don't do.
If you do the prep work yourself... call up Maaco and ask how much it would be to shoot and clear the hood factory color, that's the cheapest option and it goes up from there.

It would cost probably around 100 in materials alone, so you are looking at a few hundred dollar job. But, it depends on what exactly they do. If they have to take the paint all off to level out those chips if there is a lot of them, or if they just sand through the clear, re-shoot color, then clear again, it will be cheaper.

If its jsut a few chips, get one of them fiberglass sanding pens. Clean/sand the area out with it very well so there is NO rust. Then use the touchup paint.

Duplicolor has some good kits for chip removal.. requires a little work, but good results.
sands down the chipped spot, then paints it, clears it, and buffs it out
oh boy oh boy oh boy....lol....macco is the devil!!!!! trust me in that i had to re-do so many cars from there lack of quality and using enamle single stage it`s complete garbage please do not take that car to macco
to repair the hood the correct way would be to re finish the entire hood, d.a. the scratches, and the rust well if it is just surface 3m makes a black plastic coated wheel that removes rust, e-coat, and doesn`t wrap the metal
giving prices online and or body work/paint advice online is a very hard thing to do the trade that iam in is a hands on experience and can not be taught online but what i can do is give my 15yrs of experience and lead you in the correct way
the shop i work for body labor is 65 and hour paint is 75, frame is 85, put the cost of material, labor, blah blah, you pay for quality work thats the bottom line you want macco butchers touching you car it will look like my 11yr old daughter painted it, you want someone that has the caring attitude take the car to a small independt shop
i used to work for cars collosion which is a corperate owned chain of shops, or collision revision, or car star, all those big chains just slap the car out the door with out that caring attitude behind the work
me personally i would repair the hood for 600, and you will have the quality behind it, with macco you wont
so if any one needs help on paint work/body work/ metal fab i can give advice but can not teach a hands on trade online
thank`s
