ok guys... ill copy/paste this from S10forum.com.. so it will be long.. this is all the stuff ive said.:

ok, well.. ive replaced my fuel filter, and JUST got my exhaust fixed(it had some holes and broke in half, guy said it flowed nicely)... anyway.. its a 96 S-10 ex cab with a littler over 97,000 miles on it.. when i first got it, it ran fine.. it had some idle issues, and would idle real high, then die.. and sometimes start up fine.. so i replaced the fuel filter and fixed the bad oarts on the exhaust.. well.. now when i start it.. it still does the idle real high deal.. i dont know why.. i think maybe its the fuel pump... ALSO... whenever i put it in drive.. it barely wants to go.... it takes it a bit to get up to speed i should say.. now then.. a bad thing is the SES light is on.. but what would cause it to be slow like a damn turtle? and idle high and die sometimes? im not really mechanically worthy, so help me out.. is it time for a tune up? or something more serious?
---------------------------------------------------
after driving it some more... nothing really to update about.. but.. i noticed it takes about 3-4 secs to start my truck sometimes... not all the time.. i usually have to turn the key, wait.. then start it.. another thing.. this seems to happen mostly when the truck has been sitting, it will bog down whenever i try to take off first thing after its been sitting for awhile, then once i start to go it does it, and i guess it does it til the vehicle warms up, then it behaves... another thing is... my truck goes right to 2000rpm at take off and will increase to about 3500rpm(this is 0-70mph)... i dont know if thats normal or not, but im sure it isnt.. anyway, this whole bogging thing is making me real mad.. i WONT pull out from a stop sign or anywhere if someone is coming, i let everyone go first, because im afraid my truck will die in the middle of the road or something.. tomorrow im having all the oils changed and the tranny fluid.. any ideas?
---------------------------------------------------
guys, i need help Real bad.. my truck was bogging down REALLY bad earlier, so bad i said F it and parked it and used the wifes car.. it would die sometimes at a stop, while driving it would bog down real bad, and then go back up... etc.. i went to Auto Zone last week, to have them hook their little thing up to my truck, and it wouldnt read it.. is there a way to hook it up and get it to read? maybe a mechanics shop has something that will read my truck or whatever? and id like to get it fixed tomorrow, but im not sure what to buy to get it fixed... fuel pump, oz sensors, cat converter...etc.. help me out asap!!!!!

could quite possibly be a leak around the intake

does it smoke or anything when it bogs?

This sounds all to familiar to me as my Monte was acting the same way until finally it wouldn't start at all... and it wasn't throwing a code for my or the shops tester to pick up either.
That being said, here's what I went through before I finally found the exact problem:
1) Fuel pump and filter - well you already did the filter, but I should tell you that on GMs you should normally treat 1/4 tank as if it were Empty. Reason is a lot of GMs fuel pumps pick up crud at the bottom of the tank and that can clog up the filter faster and kill your pump... so your pump may be weak now.

2) Leak - Mine was a very small fuel leak at the intake and wasn't noticable unless someone was in the car with there foot on the throttle, so I had to have the lines replaced

3) Spark plugs and wires - While this was a standard maintainence item that needed to be done, AAA of Northwest Ohio thought that it was the problem... They were wrong, but I've got new plugs and wires on now so I'm good for a while

4) O2 sensor and/ or Catalytic - Theses ones you shouldn't have to worry about, although it could make your vehicle act the way it is... It would definately throw a code that the tester would pick up

5) Mass Air Flow Sensor - This was finally the problem with mine and it wasn't the entire sensor itself that went bad, but just one of the sensors inside of it... and No it didn't show on the tester... Mine was like a $14 part that went on top of the M.A.F on the intake, so you may actually want to look into that first as it is cheap and better than some of the more expensive items already listed

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a vacuum leak as well. I have a 95 c1500 that had idle issues and would bog down real bad when taking off. Turned out I had 2 vacuum leaks. One was the TBI gasket, and the other was intake gasket. Get a can of Chemtool (Throttle body Cleaner) and spray around vacuum lines. If there is a leak the chemtool will bog the engine down.

spray some soapy water around your intake and watch for bubbles ... My sis inlaw's car suffered from a similar problem. I could tell the intake was leaking from all the oil on it from the leaky valve cover gasket. lol. It's all better now.

someone i was talking to mentioned the MAF.. i took it off last night and checked it out, it looked clean inside, but the outside of it was pretty dirty... i have an appointment at 4 to get my truck on a diagnostics machine, but im kind of anxious because i went to AutoZone and they hooked up their little handheld thing, and it wouldnt connect to my computer, and the kid told me if there was some kind of performance chip or something on my truck, that it wouldnt read. so im hoping maybe this shops machine is better and will read it.. id rather pay them $40 so i can know my problems instead of buying all this crap.(if it doesnt read, then i dont owe them anything ofcourse)

Just because the MAF looks clean doesn't mean it isn't bad... like I said with mine it was just one of the pieces on it that went bad, but the MAF itself looked perfectly clean.
