As i stated I'm completly new to all of this, so i probably just did something stupid but as i'm having problems i figured this was the place to ask.

I recently got new speakers to accompany my new source unit, I don't have an amp or anything so i was't expecting a large amount. I read up on how to install the speakers, and look around my car a bit (it's a 1989 honda accord coup lxi) compare the factory speakers to my new speakers, and feel as though it's easy enough for me to manage so i go to it.

Noting that i'm doing this at 8pm in wisconsin and it's 40 so i was trying to move fast, the first problem occurs when my new speakers don't quiet fit in the holes my old speakers went, as i'm leaving town tommorow i figured i'd just deal with it later (fileing the holes bigger or something) so i finish everything up and turn on the car, and the speakers work fine, granted there not sitting in there holes all the way (i'm not sure if this is causing the problem because i know they work with magnets)

I take a quick drive around the neighbor hood and when i'm driving my speakers start to crackle a bit, then at times they died out then would come back in (is this a power issue?) and finally after i go to park i take out my keys to put my car in the garage (had to open the garage door) when i start the car back up, the speakers just didn't work...any ideas? sorry about the long post and potentially stupid question.

oops misread your post, you said they worked fine sitting there, well then either

1. the wires are touching each other behind the head unit or where they connect to the speakers, like power and ground touching or the power touching metal, i had this happening because i didnt use the right kind of connector, mine had exposed metal (bad mistake)

2. Loose connection at the head unit or speaker.

could this be from the connections of the speaker wire to speaker?...I didn't change the speaker wires, i just disconected the factory speakers and rehooked in the new speakers...should i replace the speaker wires? that's the only thing that's changed to my knowledge, i did nothing to the source unit and it had been working fine for about a month.

make sure the speaker wires are not touching each other or any metal.. also make a baffle for the speakers so they will fit right.. or order some rings if you can find any... also if you have any bare wires showing, like you twisted some together or something... make sure you use electrical tape, heat shrink, or some other tool(that is actually for it) that will cover it up. also make sure you have the + to + and neg to neg.... an easy way to tell is, fade your music to one side and the other... if one side is louder than the other then you have the speakers wired backwards.

What yesr, brand make model is the car?

You may have a factory amp thats not agreeing with this setup.

The solution may be as simple as running new speaker wire.
