Well I bought my receiver and my speakers. Onto the subwoofer.
Im debating a Pols 10" powered sub, PSW10. Roughly $150 + shipping.
Option B, which I would rather do is build my own. Especially since I want cherry wood to match my Polk R50 towers.
So what sub and plate amp combo you guys think?
dayton. i just built my own HT sub.

Thats what Im thinking. Dayton plate amp. just expensive! Heck I can buy a JBL subwoofer deal cheaper than just the amp alone!
Looking to make a coffee table subwoofer ;)

Like Mike said consider two, opposite each other. Should reduce the mechanical force considerably.
Also, if you're not opposed to using pro amps, check out the Behringer stuff (a500, ep1500, ep2500 depending how much power you need).

I seen a folded horn design setup as a "coffee table". Im pretty interested in that idea... except getting rca and power to a coffee table...lol
Could be very cool with a lexan top and glass over it (not to scratch the lexan).

My Polks came in tonight while I was sitting here on the net. I was wondering why they werent here yet at 6:30 PM... DHL tracking said they were out for delivery... I heard the front door open and I was there in like 2 seconds... lol
Anyways, got them hooked up. Its light years better than what Im used to, I feel almost spoiled. But I can tell I need to get most of the sub bass off these. The dual 6.5 speakers really help. Its loud as hell and very clear and accurate.
For $140 shipped, Im totally satisfied!
Pics attached!
And yes I realize I need a new TV badly and a new Stereo rack. Im gonna hang the TV on the wall or project it on the wall. One or the other. Also my little speaker shelfs are going to come off the wall!
wait till you see my bed o bass ;)
