I installed my hu yesterday (jvc kd-ar7000) and everything is running fine n dandy. but when i turn it up and the 2 12s get goin, the cd starts to skip. Is there something i can do to stop this or does the hu not have good skip protection?

your cd player is not installed securily is the problem.. try tightning it or adding some sort of padding or something. but the problem is Probably it not being secure in its place.

Well first off, as I’m sure you are aware the HU that you installed doesn't have all that great of skip protection, in fact it has no Pre-Skip memory (Reads ahead a # of seconds to prevent skipping during most driving conditions).

Also as stated above make sure your HU is installed securely, and try placing a strip of rubber around the mounting area to mount the HU onto. This should help eliminate your skipping problem.

Nice looking Hu.

my stock cd player was like a DIN and a half so i had to get a kit. So it is kinda free floating in there. Ill try placing some rubber or something inside.

Well placing rubber inside isn't going to do much, its where the actual HU or in your case kit is mounted to the veichle. You want something there that can absorbed the vibrations cause by the subwoofers.

Like What?

And thanx for all the advice!

Well I'd just keep it simple and get a strip of rubber to place in between the kit and the vehicle. But something along the lines of a foam gasket, i.e. speaker baffle type material, etc would work.

Also if you are having problems with your rear view mirror vibrating, license plate, etc... The same thing can be done by simply placing rubber between the license plates, and the car.

Just play around a bit and find something that works, but for me rubber was the key.

Hope this helps.

What kind of vehicle?

I have a 97 Century and I couldnt get the radio to lock into its sleeve...

I ended up using the trim ring with the fit kit to achieve the look of mine.

It could also be low voltage causing the skipping. Especially if you have a high-powered sub amp and sucking a lot of juice. it's actually pretty rare that a subs vibrations would make a cd player skip, it is usually caused by voltage loss leading to a weak laser reading the cd. That's a pretty hi-end deck, it shouldn't have a problem with skipping. I bet your voltage is dropping below 11.5v when you crank it up and the subs hit.

I had a similar problem with low voltage due to the size of my amp...but my deck just turned on and off. It didnt just skip. Does it seem that the headunit dims/turns off and thats what the skip is...or is it actually skipping?

No, its just plain skipping. Sometimes it does real bad, but then sometimes it doesnt skip at all. I'm thinking that its the voltage like buickfreak was saying. How would i fix that? I used a wire harness so its hooked to the stock wires, could that cause low voltage?

A new alternator would supply you with the voltage you would need.

How big is your amp? That might help us determine if it is a voltage problem. High output alternators can be expensive, especially if you can't install it yourself. I would exhaust all other means before considering a different alternator, just my opinion.

My car's a 2001, maybe if i got a new optima red top battery that'd solve things.

my amp is a Audiobahn A8000T 800w

I am no expert at all, but I don't think a new battery would solve the problem if it is in deed due to low voltage. The alternator can only replace the lost power so fast, so it would seem you wouldn't need a new battery unless you also replaced the alternator with a high output model for your car. Again, not sure but it seems logical :)

Try the methods that others mentioned with regard to bracing the head unit first. Or at least remove the front panel of your dash and try holding the unit firmly while the bass is turned up with the car running (hopefully not while driving). This may help you determine if it is due to the vibrations from the bass or if it is caused by low voltage. Keep us posted.

Havent gotten around to troubleshooting yet, been workin alot and its nighttime. I'll try holding it in place and see what happend when i get the chance

Take the radio OUT of the sleeve and actually hold it.

If its still skipping then I would put a DMM on it to check the voltage. If the voltage is low then I would worry about it.

I'm gonna go ahead and buy a cap. my headlights dim when i crank it anyway so maybe that'll solve my problem.
