This is probably a dumb question, but can a mono sub amp be used to power 2 subs. I have 2 JBL 10's in a ported box that I have been trying to hook up for like 4 years but I dont know crap about amps and I every person I have ever asked has given me a completely different answer... I appologize if this has been asked before but I couldnt find it so I ask again!!!

lol yea man. Most people you'll find run mono amps to multiple subs. Give us the specs of the sub and amp. Tell us what the rms is on the subs and what ohm configuration (e.g. Dual or Single 8ohm,4ohm,2ohm). Then find out the Brand and model of the amp and its rated power at each ohm config. Feel free to i/m me on aim (davetheslave10) anytime and make sure to stick around and learn some stuff. This forum has many knowledgable people who can help you out with just about anything.

Check the back of the magnet on one of your subs. Usually it lists what ohm the sub is. Sometimes it may list the model number as well.

JBL Grand Touring Series
Model: GT1000D 10" Sub
Sensativity: 94db
Impedence: 2 or 8 ohms
Rec Power: 18-260W
Thats everything off the back of the sub

Is it single or dual voice coil? single voice coil subs have one set of positive and negative inputs for speaker wire. dual voice coil subs have two sets..best way i can explain it really.

actually yes those are the exact ones... are they decent subs? I had them hooked up in my toronado like 3 years ago for about a week to a phoenix gold amp and they sounded great but then the internal power wire in the amp fried and i never got another amp

You will need to look for an amp that is either 1 ohm or 4 ohm stable mono. Because when you wire both subs together it will change the final impedance of them. It all depends on whether you wire them series (4 ohm) or parallel (1 ohm).

since your subs are dual 4, you're gonna want to look at either a mono amp that is stable down to 1 ohm, or a 2 channel amp that will go 2 ohms bridged.

Id look for a JBL 600.1 or 300.1. Either would give you good results in the right box. If you're planning on going sealed. Go for the 600.1. It's slightly more power than you actually need, but it's such a minimal amount of extra power that you should be fine with the gains set right. With a ported box you might as well go with the 300.1 which would give you less power than the subs are rated for, but should still reach full excursion. With the 300.1 and a ported box, you should go to www.partsexpress.com and pick up the 20hz F-mod since the JBL BP series amps lack a Subsonic Filter. Either choice would be perfect in your case. Look for some refurbs JBL's online. They're good quality dependable amps and can be had for cheap.

I got the 2 subs, a bandpass box and an amp for $250... like i said the amp was bunk but the box itself cost more than $250 so I thought it was a steal... Ive never heard too much negative on JBL so I didnt want to pass it up

The first thing you will want to do is ditch that box ASAP.

Prefabbed bandpass boxes blow goat balls. Sorry to break it to you.

A properly build Sealed box will sound absolutely flawless to you when compared to the bandpass.

As for the Amp... I know the JBL BP series amps everyone is reccomending. They are good amps, but are becoming HARD to find.

What kind of head unit do yuo have?

Im going to start reccomending ALpine amps I think for people on a budget. THey dont look all to bad, its Alpine- and the price is decent.
