Massive Audio has just unleashed their new line up which include their new SQX15... No where near what you're thinking... This puppy is made to get loud... Super LOUD and clear with 1200w rms, double stacked 300oz magnets, and quad 3" 1ohm voice coils.
You can check it out here: http://massiveaudio.com/home/index.php?content=php/product&id=126

While you're there you can take a look at the rest of the new line up under "Subwoofers" that include:
DC lines
QC lines
SW lines
TW lines
And yes they are still making the PW and DMX ;)

101 dB sensitivity rating... might as well say a billion dB they are being so deceptive with that rating.

It's a quad-1 coil... in parallel that is 1/4 ohm.

Guess what? They are using a 2.83v rating (1 watt at 8 ohms) -- that is 32 watts at 1/4 ohm.

So... our 101 dB sensitive sub is actually 86 dB when you use a REAL 1 watt rating.

*sigh* Had to get that out there... marketing BS at its finest there.

ok, so run them in series at 4 ohms, get any number of uber cheap amps that push out over 1k watts at 4 ohms and your golden ... right? How hard is it to find an amp these days to push that kinda power at 4 ohms? And you retain your sensitivity. Right?

The idea behind the quad 1 ohm voice coils is the same on the DMX... Not to wire down to 1/4 ohm, but to open up more wiring configurations for different set ups.
A lot of time and effort has been put into the Massive SQX15 with it being able to get below the range of human hearing at 10hz... retail price to be listed soon and be forewarned they ain't cheap... This puppy is the highest dollar sub that Massive has ever produced.

basically the sub has no back plate which is y it can reach 10hz. and relies solely on the suspension to maintain linearity. and with a quad 1ohm vc only at 1200 rms that leads me to believe the mechanical handling is limited and not the thermal. it may work it may die well see i guess.

I have no doubt that it is the mechanical limits and not the thermal as the thermal limits should match that of the DMX or close.
