I have 2 MTX Thunder 8000 10'' subs that i hooked up to one channel @<hidden> 4 ohms. Each sub is 400Wrms / 800peak. Should i be using a 400Wrms one-channel mono amp @<hidden> 4 ohms or an 800Wrms one-channel mono amp @<hidden> 4 ohms? Or maybe i should bridge a 2 channel amp? I dont know, this is my first system - any help is appreciated.

well we need to know what kind of amp you have first. and the specs on the amp.... the subs max power doesnt matter.... the only thing that matters is the RMS which is 400... anyway yeah let us know what kind of amp...model..etc.

What is the voice coil configuration on the subs? Dual 4 ohm, single 4 ohm...etc.

This will better help us guide you.

its ideal to use a mono amp, multi cahnnel amps get spendy and are uneccessary.

if the subs are 4 ohms, then you want an amp that produces about 800 watts rms at 2 ohms. if they are 2 ohms each, then you'll need to look for a 1 ohm stable amp @<hidden> 800 wrms. you can wire them in series if they are 2 ohm, but good luck finding a realisticly priced amp that produces 800 wrms @<hidden> 4 ohms.

if the subs are rated for 400 watts continuous, I wouldn't feed tham any more than 400 watts each.

With that being said, Id probably give those subs less than rated power. If you're going ported..200wrms should be perfect and if sealed, I suppose you could give 300 or the rated 400..wont make enough of an audible difference either way. Whatever floats your boat.

Very nicely put Kiki!

To the point and simple!

each sub has dual 4 ohm voice coil, i think im going to set them up in parallel and then connect the subs in series for 4 ohms x 1 channel. with this being said, i think the audiobahn a8000t would be a good choice yes?

With 2 D4 subs, you want to look at either a mono amp stable to 1 ohm, or a 2 channel amp that is bridgable at 4 ohms. I think I made pretty much this exact same post a few days ago lol.

Even tho i have an audiobahn amp...i would recommend to stay away from them. They are chrome paper weights.

But yes...look into the types of amps Mercedesbends69 recommended.
