Being a huge fan of the Camaro, you have done an excellent job restoring yours. I had one years ago, and can honestly say that I miss it more each and everyday!
Keep up the great work, you have a great talent.

It's packed away, but I'm doing some work while I wait for Spring.

Excellent restoration, had a camaro 82 but did sold it out. Hope to get new one and will definitely try to restore in that same manner.

It's been a long time since I've updated this thread.
Thought I would show off what I've been working on the last year or so.
The Kenwood double din that I had installed, was pretty old. It no longer worked with my newer Android Phone.
I looked into upgrading, but all the Android Auto units that were worth anything, were around $500. For a car I drive like 4 times a summer, I didn't really want to spend that. Especially since the deck would be outdated by the next summer when I pull it out of the garage.

So I started looking into Carputer type options, and stumbled across a project called OpenAuto.
Using a Raspberry PI and their software you can have Android Auto in your car.

I decided to give this a try.
    Parts:
    Raspberry PI 3b+
    WaveShare 7 inch capacitive touchscreen
    USB soundcard with RCA
Reused the Microphone that I used from the Kenwood deck
Then some relays and timer circuits for the shutdown progress, you can read this thread here for details on how to make that work.
I had to modify again the car bezel to make the 7 inch screen work. Overall it looks good, but I think a 3d printed bezel with the exact dimensions would make it look 100% like it belonged there.

It took a lot of trial and testing to get everything working correctly, but finally it's in the car. And honestly sounds about the same as the Kenwood deck that I had before it. Just now I have Android Auto, and everything that comes with it (nav and all the apps).
The one thing stopping me from doing this project with my daily driver, is that there is no FM radio support at the moment. I know many don't care about that, but for those times when I have no mobile data or don't feel like plugging in the phone, I would still like to have some functionality in the head unit. Hopefully they add this support soon.

    Here are some pics.

a video of the bootup, I added a custom bootup animation to give it a little more of a OEM look.
