Haha, I was approached by a guy selling home speakers from his van outside a beer store in my old town. It's a small town and I knew he wasn't from the area. So I figured they were stolen and he was trying his luck where nobody knew him. The two towers he was selling looked fairly nice actually. He offered me a deal of $400 for the pair as he just needed enough money for gas and food until he got paid. Both my friend and I declined.
So, over a year goes by and I'm at this chicks uncles house. She was babysitting her nefews and a friend and I were keeping her company. As I'm sitting there watching tv I noticed some nice speakers planted on each side of the tube. I just sat there wondering why they looked so familiar. Than I look over at the chick and say, "Those speakers look really familiar."
Her face went completely white. She even had these strange dimples on her cheeks form and she looked completely freaked. At that same moment I remembered and figured out they were the same speakers the guy was trying to sell me. I then told her why they looked so familiar. She was so relieved she nearly farted I think.
I guess her uncle bought them off the guy the same day he tried selling them to me. The whole family had given her uncle shit because they figured the speakers were stolen and that sooner or later he was going to get busted with them. The chick thought for a few seconds they had been stolen from me and her uncle was about to go down. That's why she was freakin' out.
It was pretty funny. But I'm glad I didn't buy them. One speaker sounded really scratchy when I tested them. I just had to find out if I had missed a good deal. Plus, my conscious would be going non stop worrying about the possibility of them being stolen.
Those appear to be stamped baskets too LOL.
Northquad, about 8 years ago I had some guys in a white minivan pull up next to me at my bank and try to sell me tower speakers. They claimed to be installing systems in new houses and the owner "decided not to use these" so they had to sell them cheap. They flipped out a catalog and tried to convince me they were "top of the line". I laughed and told them to take their scam elsewhere. They tried to laugh it off and question why I thought it was a scam, but I just got in my car and drove off.
A similar thing happened after I moved to Colorado and while at a stoplight some guys in a random white minivan asked me if I was interested in some "high quality closeout speakers from someone who decided they didn't want them". This is a well-known scam across the US and I'm sure hundreds of people have fallen for it. The speakers are cheap ass $50 to $100 per pair towers that they try to sell for $200 and up.
