Default Looking for Seas RS165's

I finally decided to pull the trigger on a set of Seas Lotus Reference components and when I went to the MobileSQ site it seems they've been discontinued and replaced by the RS165f's which are nearly twice the price. Are they that much better? and if not anyone know where I can pick up a set of the older ones?
Jonathan?
Sorry guys I've been out of the loop for quite a while and am not up to speed on this stuff.
Thanks
-Dwight

Well I'm impressed.

I emailed MobileSQ VERY late last night with this very same question, and have already received a reply this morning:

Dwight,

The new RS165F is a big improvement over the older RS165.
The midbass has more snap, higher fs to help reduce door resonance.
The tweeter is much smoother and more extended on the top end compared to
the old ones. New crossovers as well.
$1400 is the msrp that is dictated by Seas. We normally sell them for $999
+ $25 shipping.

Here is an email from an old customer who just swapped his RS165 to the
new one.

Subject: Seas

Eng,
I just got back from a wisconsin with the family and I installed the right
side. It sounds awesome. I was installing in the dark, in freezing
rain/snow mix. And when I finally turned the music on, I was blown
away!!! First thing I noticed was the midbass. I didn't really read much
about the mids, so I was really surprised. It blended really well with
the seas 10". I have the mid crossed at 80 at 24db and 1.6k 12db from the
previous setup. The tweeter is also more natural sounding, smoother. I
also left the tweeter crossed at 2.2k and 12db. I left the left side with
the old reference set, because of the weather and so I could compare both
sides.
THanks again for hooking me up bro. you're the man!

I'm in the process of designing a system for my 2003 Explorer and hopefully will have everything up and running within a month or so. Here's how things look so far:

Clarion DRZ-9255
Seas Lotus Reference RS165f's
Jl Audio Stealth Box w/ single 10w3v3
Audison LRX 4.300 (Seas)
Audison LRX 1.400(10w3)
Edead in the doors

I'm trying to keep things simple this time around. My last system was way too complex and a complete bear to tweak:

I'm going to have my local Sound Advice do the install as I'm completely swamped at work, but hopefully I'll be back soon with some pics and reviews of the Seas/Audison combo.

I was about to say they'll give 'em to ya lower than MSRP. It's to "protect dealers" but I don't know of a dealer for 'em outside of California. But yeah, I got to hear a set, much improved over the last set. Fixed most of the drawbacks of the last set, really nice. Best 2 ways I can think of, especially for the price.

Yeah I think you'll be seeing me around just not as much as I used to be. We lost a captain at work and I'm covering hard until we get one of our deckhands trained to run the boat. I have some weeks that can consist of a couple 18 hour days and no days off. Sure is nice to have a wad of tip money in a drawer however. $1000 components are no longer out of my price range, hehe.

Do you have any install advice for the Lotus components Jonathan? As usual I'm looking for stealth and was planning on utilizing the mids in the stock locations and placing the tweets in a "pod" where the cupholder in the door is. Its pretty low and forward yet close to the mid and would have the tweeter angled about 45 degrees(I think) off both the vertical and horizontal axes. I'll try to get some pics. Its actually a pretty cool looking place to mount a tweeter. Should be barely noticeable. Unfortunately I'm going to have to let someone else do the install so I'm not going to be able to experiment much with tweeter location.

Oh yeah I've been back and forth with Eng via email as they don't give out telephone numbers. The RS 165f's should be on their way. Can't say enough about MobileSQ.com. Eng has been very, very helpful.

Has anyone heard the Seas Lotus 10 inch subs(SW 250's)? They've been discontinued as well. Eng has two left and wont get the newer ones in til summer. Was thinking about going with a pair of sealed 12w6's, but maybe its time to cut the JL apron strings. It'd be cool to have a system with all same brand drivers.
