Going multiple amps in a 02 Tahoe, upgrade alternator or extra batteries?

Post by Wayfatcat »

I want to put 2 Kenwood amps in my Tahoe, (i believe the stock alternator is 135 amp) and each amplifier draws 65 amps. What do I need to do? New to electrical upgrading.

Take a look at the electrical FAQs we have, mainly the 'Big 3' you'll want to do those first.
Next, if it appears your stock alt is not cutting it (lights dimming). I would upgrade that next.

Adding an additional battery will only extend your 'engine off' run time. When the car is running, the extra batter is just going to cause more of a draw on your already weak electrical system.
