I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking , but after diagnosing the starting issue it led me to checking the voltage of the battery with the ignition off and while trying to start. 12.5 volts at rest and 9.5 volts while trying to start. Next i checked the starter relay for continuity. Everything was fine so i started to look into the stator. The stator was fine but while tracing the stator wires to the rectifier, i found that the electrical connector had been fried. I learned that this is a common problem and the suggested fix was to hard wire it. Lastly I discovered that the previous owner had broken open the connector portion on the rectifier and was holding it in with duct tape. I temporarily wired each wire directly to the inputs to the rectifier and viola! She’s alive.
