Vintage Air Fan and Shroud review

During the last cruise, I noticed the car was really starting to creep up in temperature while sitting in traffic. Once I started moving, it cooled right down. So before spending a ton on radiator or electric fan upgrades, I wanted to try a more stock-looking, simple approach.

I did some research and found that Vintage Air offers a direct bolt-on fan upgrade. This upgraded fan is 18.25 inches by 2 inches, made of steel, and manufactured in the USA. What I liked most is that it’s a true bolt-on.

To further improve airflow, I figured a shroud would help funnel the air better. Vintage Air also makes a direct bolt-on shroud.

Installing the fan was very straightforward—just as advertised, it bolted right on. The only thing I wish is that the fan blades were just a tad shorter. They sit very close to the transmission lines. I was able to move the radiator to create some clearance, but if the blades were just 18 inches, I wouldn’t have needed to make any adjustments.

As for the shroud, the installation wasn’t quite as simple. I found that the holes in the shroud really should have been oblong to allow for more adjustment. Using the factory holes caused the radiator to sit too far back (which is when I noticed the issue with the fan blade clearance).

My only option was to enlarge the holes in the shroud to allow for better positioning. After making the modifications and some final adjustments, I was able to get everything mounted properly.

Now the next test is to see if this setup actually makes a difference. We’ll find out at the next cruise!

Update: 8/9/25

The new fan and shroud made a huge difference. Last weekend it was in the mid 80s and the cruise was pretty packed with lots of idling in traffic.  The car never got close to getting too hot. If you're having overheating problems, I highly recommend this upgrade.
