Fitting wheels took a bit to figure out with the application at hand. With a B-Body rear axle which slightly wider than the traditional A-Body rear end, making wheels fit is a bit of challenge. I wanted to use off the shelf wheels, but there weren’t a lot of options with the appropriate offsets. I didn’t want to roll the fenders. With the 5 x 4.5” (114.3), I went to work in measuring the open space, then looked to see what would work. I ended up with Enkei TS-V’s.
I started off with some rollers off a 98 Mustang Cobra. Those are 8” wide with a 30mm offset and 245 tire. While they worked nearly perfectly up front, they tended to rub slightly up front and rubbed out back during turns. I went with a 8” wheel and 35mm offset up front. I did have to have the wheel center machined and opened up slightly to fit the disc brake hub, then had to come up with a center cap to fit. I found some aluminum wheel caps that I polished that seemed to fit the look.
For the back, having moved in the rear springs, but not the wheel tubs, I had a little more depth in the wheel well out back. I ended up with a 8-½” wide wheel out back with a 45mm offset, with a 255 wide tire.
In the end, I staggered the tire and wheel setup. If I had a standard rear axle, I would’ve been able to have the same wheel size all around. And while I went with the 18” wheels, I’m toying with finding a 17” wheel.
