Do amps have sound quality?
Well... here is the problem I have with people that claim they hear it...

Speakers have the greatest impact in the overall sonic characteristics of any system, & tuning is a science on its own. Let's add to this dilema the fact that the car environment is highly reflective & irregular, so peaks & valleys in your overall frequency response WILL vary from car to car...

With that said, how many objective claims of SQ are you going to believe when none of those variables are likely being controlled when they post their subjective opinnions?

I'll add to this a couple of more things...
- Is the input impedance of all amps is not the same, so gain setings are probably another uncontrolled variable. (And most think is a volume control!!!!)
- What is their SQ referrence material, & how do they know what the original source sounded like? Where they at the recording studio?
- What is the referrence system they are using for their audition?

See where I'm going with this???
Needless to say, I do not put any stock on anyones opinions about SQ between amps. If you compete, the most important things are the following...

No turn on/off noises
Low Noise Floor

Yeah I know my .02 cents worth... but definitely something for you to chew on...

You know you are going to get 3 different answers to that question... people will be more inclined to rank on how THEY think they stackup to each other, rather than break down for you any pertinent technical data... & if they did, would you even understand it?

For example... The main differences between them...

JL E series- High Voltage Design. Unregulated power supplies.
JL / series- tighly reulated power supplies, max output from 1.5-4ohms
RF Punch- High Voltage Design. Unregualted power supplies.

To be able to rank them, I would have to know a couple of more things...
MAX output 1 channel driven under clipping
MAX output all channels driven under clipping
MAX current draw idle
MAX current draw 1/3 & 2/3 ouput (what you are likely to draw while cracking music)

So to be honest with you... the 3 amps you are considering are from reputable manufacturers... I would say pick according to your needs (features & power) and pfcoarse the better value (deal that you can get on them)...

How do we rank the 3 - JL e series / JL Slash / Rockford Punch in terms of performance.

I just noticed that you said hatchback... so the JL may yet still be a possibility IF you don't already have the sub...

You'll need an efficient sub here are some examples...

These are very efficient subs geared towards SQ...the Peerless would be my 1st choice since they have more XMAX, Copper shorting rings in the coil & vented coil motor structure... thus much lower distortion...

or a 5 channel amp from someone like kicker or MTX or Memphis

or look at a better pair of amps.. a 4 channel and a mono amp from alpine, or similar.

I'd do the Rockhard Prostate amps... I don't think the JL 6 channel cranks out enough for a sub unless it is a very efficient sub capable @ 150watts.

The new JL / & e series amps are designed by the same engineers that were @ PPI in the old days, & started xTant after that... They are excellent amplifiers.

id do the rockfords, the jl e series just doesnt do it for me, but, then again neither do the rockfords... i havent been a big fan of rf since about 91 or so......

Want to run one pair of Components (front) and one pair of coaxials (Rear) and a single sub in a hatchback.

Want to know what amp combination would be better.

1. RF Punch 4004 for front & rear with a RF Punch 2002 for the sub

OR

2 JL audio e6450 to run everything.
