Myself I prefer the gummy tack stuff... holds on good (short term) for placement and doesn't leave sticky residue... Just my added tip. :)

the reason it's suggested that the mid and tweeter be close together is because this is one of the easiest ways to [b]keep the signal paths equal for all speakers[/b].
The end result you want is for the sound from every speaker to reach you at the same time, thus avoiding separation between each speaker, so they all blend together. Without the use of time correction adjustments with a DSP, the way to do this is to keep the signal path length for all of the speakers equal. This is one reason kick pods work as well as they do.

Having the speakers higher in the door is done to lift the imaging floor nd soundstage, so everything sounds like its up on a stage in front of you, and not by your ankles, but its not easy to stick a 6.5" mid in the door of most cars, so manufacturers make due by sticking tweeters either in the upper door sills, or the dash.

CDT has the best interest in mind, but, I can tell you, The A-pillar is as good a place as any to mount a tweeter, try around ear level.

Kicks are great for tweeter/mid combo, but if you go that route, try using a smaller midrange, like a 4" or even some of the 3" mids, then use a midbass driver in the door.

my install the tweet/mid are in the a-pillars and the midbass is in the kicks. My next vehicle, we will see what is the best placement, since it will be a truck.

CDT is right. but its not always possible, nor does it provide the best possible imaging. from my personal experience, mounting them together creates a very even freq response, and sounds the best... but right now i have my tweeters in the a pillar. just try different tweeter locations and see what sounds best to YOU.

The further you separate the tweeter from the mid, the more apt you are to point out the sound is coming from more that one location. Providing the path lengths are close to equal, I see no real issue.

Browsing trough the CDT website I read this:

Always make sure the main component system Tweeter is mounted “close to the mid woofer” if possible angled toward the dome light/sunroof area. “Never” mount the main component Tweeter away from the mid woofer and or high up on the door sail panel or rear mirror location, never.
Poor Tweeter placement:
“Never” use the side rear mirror location as your main Tweeter placement! Always mount the main component Tweeter close to the mid woofer location, always! [/b][/i]
Knowing that tweeters are almost always higher up or near the mirror location I'm very confused .
so experts please explain
