if the amp is bridged, it's only stable to 4 ohms, most likely.
ensure he's using a 4 ohm load. That would be:
a single coil, 4 ohm sub or
a dual 2 ohm coil sub with coils in SERIES.
If he has a dual 4 ohm coil sub, he either has a 2 ohm load (I'm guessing this is his issue right here) with the coils in parallel, causing the amp to shut down, or he has an 8 ohm load with the coils in series.
Need to verify the load per coil, number of coils on the sub, and how it's wired.
