If you've never questioned something, you haven't sought truth. That's my $.02

it's not a matter of what's possible - a great many things are possible:
It's possible for Bill Gates to spread the wealth and mail everyone in the USA a check for $10.
It's possible for you to win the lottery, if you buy a ticket.
It's possible for you to have so many women throwing themselves at you that you can throw them away like kleenex.

It's not a matter of what is possible...
It's a matter of what is probable. ]that[/i] reason - be more likely to blindly "have faith" that it would perform as a high-end HU.

However, you'll note that JL Audio didn't come to market with this HU. ;)

Anyone should be skeptical of anything that "hasn't ever been done before".
...shouldn't that instantly beg the question "WHY hasn't it been done before?" :tongue017

"if jl,re,adire,or elavation were offering the ural cdd you guy's would be swingin' like janeibut since it's eD it "has to be junk"

Saying eD is only a distributor, and doesn't have any affiliation with Ural, this isn't the case. Honestly with Adire/REs history of supplying product in a timely fashion, I wouldn't want them supplying the units either. It isn't about quality of product. Aside from that, I am more than willing to put JL, RE, Adire down in areas that I feel they aren't good in, or if they produce a sub-par product. Others will say the same. I just haven't seen/heard a reason to yet. With eD, I have seen/heard numerous examples.

"i believe most of you said the same thing about the blaupunkt bremen, and i believe a member with first hand experience stepped up to the plate and put all in check about that one..."

Bosch electronics...Bleech. That's why Blaupunkt suffers. It's a situation where any SQ benefits aren't going to be audible for anyone to bash them unless the unit is horribly engineered. Which leads you to choosed based upon build quality and reliability, which isn't going to be summed up on a single review nor a review slightly after the product is recieved. No one is going to fuss about head unit or amplifier SQ unless they're just doing it based on a bias against a product, they're only going to bitch when it fails a year down the road.

the funny thing about this thread...if jl,re,adire,or elavation were offering the ural cdd you guy's would be swingin' like janeibut since it's eD it"has to be junk"...not that i'm defending eD,but for the price there's not a lot out there that is even compareable...and before everyone goes to flaming me,i know ryan got screwed by eD,and i myself have done my fair share of complaining about my own subs, turns out the majority of my problem was/is in my install.i'm just making a point-ryan can bitch,he has the right...anyone else that has first hand experience, flame away...but...for those of you who have never even seen, little lone heard an eD product, don't trash until you know, that makes you guys just as bad as the rest of the band wagoners...as far as the processing goes on the ural,i believe most of you said the same thing about the blaupunkt bremen, and i believe a member with first hand experience stepped up to the plate and put all in check about that one...just because it's not an eclipse does not mean it's not possible just my $.02

There is a cure for ed. It's called XBL^2, which straightens curvatures and gives you more linear stroke ;)

It's been so long since I checked out that HU, I forgot what features it even had that people have been buzzing about.

But I wasn't impressed when I looked at it, the translation of the site wasn't even that good. I remember seeing some flash movie, but I don't remember all the features.

You can fit a digital processor in a small space, that I won't argue.
Whether that processor is "high end" or not is another story...
...look at the Kicker SX amplifiers, for example.
They have features that at face value sound like every other amplifier is now obsolete - onboard digital processing.
In my experience, less than audiophile grade.
But the features all work as they are supposed to, that's not the issue.

RF has a pair of processors that are hidaway units, the 3sixty.1 and 3sixty.2... controlled bluetooth wirelessly through any Palm OS unit.
Those look sliek, haven't gotten my hands on one yet - but the use of a 3sixty wouldn't dictate my choice of head unit either. ;)

The amp section I'm sure it's worthless...

On the otherhand, as far as the CD transport & DSP functions, I'm guessing Alpine & Eclipse would be able to do the same as CDD has with the right DSP chips in them.

I'll take the 9835 for example for a comparison (I'm pretty sure a comparable Eclipse has better features)
3way xOvers vs 4way on the CDD
5band PEQ vs 30band GEQ n the CDD
6channel T/A vs 6channel T/A on the CDD
6 1bit DAC's vs 24bit on the CDD (Assuming that is what they mean by 25bit processing)
4channel amp vs 6channel amp (and we both know this isn't even worth mentioning)
RCA jacks, Antenna & Bus connections on chassis vs pigtail RCAs & other connections...

The Premier DEH-P880PRS that I am waiting for is similar as well... with the exception of L&R independent 16band GEQ & 3way xOver...

I'm getting the impression here that if Eclipse dropped this feature rich HU on the market, none would be questioning the possibility.

One chip solutions are no mistery. Pretty soon a PS2 will be the size of a walk man.

The DQXS, is halve the sive of a HU in Higth. And with pig tail RCA connections it would be smaller in width as well.

"My guess is that all the DSP functions are handled via a single chip solution or chip set. The sure thing is that we are likely not going to find out without a service manual in the right hands..."

I'd guess the same. Moore's law ;)

The DQXS is a really nice little unit which I'm considering, but that head unit sized processor doesn't have to cram a CD section, amplifier (this HU can drive 6 channels), or the numerous attachment interfaces. It's a loaded HU, but typically loaded HUs are the ones that fail the most.
