I've seen a few multi sub set ups with smaller stuff, but most have been in show vehicles and not really oriented towards big bass,
Although I have one kid here locally that has 6 - 10" Diamond D3s that we're gonna try and squeeze into the back of an eclipse... and I'm sure that the enclosure is what's going to make all the difference in the world.
As for your friend, I'm with everybody else on this one... VRs would be a better match and overall subs for the first time set up... and if he can get them from Scarrell for less and save a lil dough, all the better
