What kind of battery do you have? Try letting the battery charge up for a bit before turning on the stereo. It seems to me that it could either be the battery or the regulator on the alternator. I've got a Blaupunkt Overdrive 12'' sub being powered by an Eclipse XA2000. The gain is not set high. The car has a new alternator in it also, a 130A model, up from the stock 70A. I guess I never noticed it before, but I could have sworn when I initially tested the amp/sub together I saw no clipping...

Maybe in the air in the trunk there's more moisture, but when I just looked at the amp it was perfectly dry, incredibly cold, but dry.

Could it be that the amp was just too cold? Previously, I'd only listen for a minute or two, but I was in my car just now for a half hour and after about 5 minutes, the tinny static was gone. These seem like a possibility?
