    Hi Welcome to the forum.

    There are a lot of different factors that can make one sub 'sound' better than another.
    But in regards to the RMS wattage, it just means that the 500 Watt sub can handle more power.
    Which if in the proper enclosure, and being run off an amp with that amount of power. Would make it louder than the 250 Watt model being run off an 250 Watt amp.
