Budget SYSTEM (entire system, not subs)

Post by brownbob06 »

ok, so I just wrecked my Eclipse last week :'( and I got a 98 Monte Carlo, since it only has a 3100 engine in it, it's nothing to mod, therefore, the bulk of my attnention on this car will be with the sound system. Now, when I say sound system I do NOT mean a car with alot of bass. (although I do plan on a 1 or 2 Type X subs later down the road) I'm going to start out by replacing all of the stock speakers, which sound like complete crap turned up, with higher models of speakers. I haven't decided whether I am going to start by building kick panels or replacing the rear speakers with midbass woofers. I know, rear fill isn't important and is almost a waste of money, but I get tired of my friends in the back seat complaining about not hearing anything, haha. I may just throw some cheap 6x9s back there or something, not sure yet.

So far, this is what I am thinking:
6" component kick panels w/ tweeter mounted in the kick panel
6" Midbass woofers in the rear deck
and finally, (I said I'm on a budget) there is space between the center console and firewall where I THINK I may but a Boss enclosed woofer. I am talking about the setup that is I believe an 8" woofer and amp all in a small 2 inch thick and small (not sure of dimensions) enclosure. I LOVE the way bass sounds up front. haha.

Anyways, give me your thoughts on this project, and give me your suggestions if they are reasonable.

O yea, I will also be looking for a headunit to replace the one in it (an old Pioneer HU) I would REALLY like to pick up an Alpine 9887 (I think that's the model) The one that later I can buy the mic to tune the entire system with.

Wow... another Monte... We're practically turning into a 3 way gm car club here... F-bodies, Blazers, and Monte Carlos :)
Well the Boss Bass600 isn't all it's cracked up to be for one and for 2 I don't think there's enough room there for it since it measures out at 2.8"H x 9.8"W x 13.7"L... and custom modifying something that cheap in there may not be worth it.

Humm, what kind of amps are you planning to run? Depending on your budget, i'd get a 4 channel to run both your fronts and rears, and a small sub amp for woofer(s) Other option would be to do away with the rear speakers entirely, and bridge the rear channel of the amp to the sub. An elevation dealer is selling off his remaining inventory for dirt cheap, i'd check out a 12'' sqx and 300.4, and possibly components if you havnt decided on any yet.

well, I'll PROBABLY buy everything from myself, haha. but I'm not expecting that enclosed woofer to have much to it, just a little bit of bass.

And I will probably frun a 4 channel amp for all of my mids/highs, but like I said, I will probably put a rear stage in just so my friends in the back seat have something good to listen to as well as me :D

I'm just not real sure what i want to run, I kid of wanted to run all Alpine (although then I couldn't buy from myself), but last night at Best Buy I heard a Type R component setup next to am infinity component system, and the infinity comps made the type R's sound like crap.

decent idea, but I will prolly go with a class A/B 4 channel amp for the main speakers. Then a mono Class D for the Sub.

I know I was talking about doing a small sub for SQ earlier, but my normal speakers should give me decent SQ low end. When I go bass it probabl won't be anything small. haha.

srry, this project is on delay, need to pay for my monte carlo yet, a 2k credit card bill, and another 2500 dollar loan I have out...yea, I'm in pretty deep for someone my age... o well, I'll make it!

ok, sorry, I'm sure everyone thinks I've just given up or disappeared. But the truth is, I got a new job, and I'm making ok money now, but I am in the process of looking at houses/apartments. I still plan on doing this buildup, but it may be even more gradual than I had planned.
