The higher the strand count, the more physical copper you can fill in the same jacket. The more copper you have, the more current that wire can carry.

To measure the capabilities of some wire, you can simply check the resistance with a DMM. You have to work with standardized lengths for the test to be fair though. My guess is that you would be hard to measure a difference in most wire under 20 foot. After that the difference would be very small from one brand to the next.

Buy the cheap stuff unless it has a physical feature that you do not like.

Take a look int he product review section about Raptor wire.

Just because a company claims the wire to be a certain gauge doesnt mean it is!

We ran a ton of that in wall speaker wire(enough to run at least 10.2 channels, seemed like enough to run 22.2 channels lol....) when we built our house... we ran it in the ceiling. It doesn't actually bend as well as regular speaker wire.

How important is to to have that extra PVC coating around the speaker wire itself.? I know its a resistor and it keeps the wires together. But is it actually that important? Does it actually resist more current than im thinking?

I think I read somewhere that the higher the strand count, the more flexible the wire is. Is that correct??

This gives me an idea.... I think im gonna set up a test. with diffrent brand speaker wire and then run a Voltage Drop test and a Resistance test on them. see what ranks the highest and the lowest.
