when playing with different box sizes and tuning... you will want to keep the gain at or less than +3db. This will create for of a flatter responce and you wont hear the sub sounding peeky at certain notes. This will also yield for better sound quality.

stick with JL's recommended box specs for ported boxes based on what you listen to and your car and power.
JL uses smaller boxes compared to some brands, but that's to do with the speaker design. It works out well.
I actually like using smaller boxes anyway. Less clutter and wasted space.

In all honesty the boxes JL has speced out are right on target for every subwoofer.

So if you build a box right to specs you will be pleased. Trying to tweak them much more is almost not worth it. Yes they are engineered very good!

deffinitely. My 13w1v2 in a sealed box sounded great, we built it to JL's specs. ANd the sub felt pretty sturdy too... and it didn' thave honda badges on it!

Using BassBoxPro; if you have a 3-inch diameter port it will need to be 22.6 inches long at 32 HZ, a 4-inch port will only need to be 41.2-inches long.

I would consider a much larger box, tuned a little higher.

If small size is important stay sealed

Well here is the PDF of what JL says

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/7954.pdf

Ok i emailed brad at arc audio about the subsonic filter on the 1500-xxk because its preset to only 25hz

I asked him to modify it so its adjustable from 25-30hz instead.

He is able to do this for me for small fee. Here is what he wrote me back.

"I really don't think 7Hz will make a big differance. You're just
looking to protect the woofer. As long as it doesn't bottom out it will be
fine. Should I leave it alone?"
