Component placement ideas?

Post by CaptainPioneer »

Ok thinking about getting some Diamond D3 Components... Here is my little question....

When placing the speakers i havre 2 different locations i can choose from either in the doors which are about 2.5 feet lower than head level... or should i put them behind me which are exactly on head level...

Also I know its a pretty good idea to place tweeters on the a pillars near the windshield but i was thinking possibly to fire them down from the ceiling in the corners in the rear of the truck... Any suggestions... ??

Also I have a choice either i do 6.5"s in the back or 5x7's in the doors what do you suggest... again I am only running these of the HU... Yes i know that they would sound a-lot better off of an amp... and I do have an A/D/S Plate amp 6 channel i could use... Only problem is I am missing the signal cord that they provide with it... I will use this amp if someone could direct me to how i can get one of those... I checked EBAY a bunch of times but couldnt find it. Any help would be great! thanks

put the mid in the door and the tweet low in the windshield pillar...this is a chevy right? if it is those stock locations behind your head are only good for collecting dust....they are terrible locations for speakers....ok reread the post and i assume it is a ford? even with 5x7's in the door you can still make a plate and usually get a component set in there with no trouble.....

ok if its a dodge you should have 6x9's in the front doors (depending on year) i know the grill looks like a 6.5 but its not....i think a 5.25 in the rear if its 4 door or extended cab...could get a 6.5 in there easy enough though....on dodges i actually like the tweet in the door right behind the mirror....i dont know about the ads amp...i used to have a couple pq20's but they didnt have any special cables but were talking 15 years ago so things may have changed...also for what its worth, i wouldnt use sheetmetal for your mid baffle...metal is not very acoustically friendly

oh so mdf it is then lol... well actually standard equipment on ram is 4" in the lower rears of a std cab and 5x7 in the front doors.... I think im going to have to go with a 6.5" in the door and i already have 6.5" in the back right now... I cant really explain the cables that they use but all i can say is instead of having RCA inputs... they have this multi cable that had like 18-20 pins in it and then it splits off into like 6 sets of rca's... my amp is a 6 channel amp 50x6 i believe... I had the wire and then one install i accidentally cut into the wire and it no longer works any more... the amp still powers up just I cant get signal to it without that damn wire! lol

So i can do 3x88 at 4ohms if i would like to which i think would work well... the only problem is that i wouldnt have anything for a 3rd speaker so i dont know if that is goign to mess up the amp's configureation

What year/model is the truck?

Are you going to sound deaden the doors?

What comonent set are you using?

For drop in replacement with no amp you're almost also better off going with coaxials...

Not to mention that they are easier to get right than components, so sometimes they'll sound better amped than amped components will.. This especially rings true with for first time installers.... (less to screw up)

Oh no i am going to be installing Diamond Audio D3 in the doors and i would like to power them with the ADS amp though so thats what i would like to do... I was thinking that the doors will have to be sound deadend now that i am replacing these speakers and I believe i will just make a plate out of mdf so to seal off the midrange correctly or i was going to order one of those rubber things off of Crutchfield

Are you talking about screwing mdf over the holes in the doors to seal it?

If so dont do that. Cut sheet metal to fit over the holes and screw them in, then use a sound deadener over that to reduce the rattles... The only place I would use mdf is on the baffle/mounting plate... You should also sounddeaden the inside of the door skin, especially behind the speaker... This will improve the midbass response greatly....
