is it worth the extra $$$???

Post by shady13 »

ok so my initial setup was 2 10" SWR-1022D type R's with the alpine MRD M1005 amp powering them. now is it worth the extra $200 to upgrade the amp and get the Alpine PDX-1.1000?? if its gonna make a big difference then its a done deal seen as i got a little extra cash for xmas!!
if its worth it do i still get the 1022D subs or the 1042D subs? 2 ohm and 4 ohm is the difference i believe.
thanks for the help/advice

no you don't.

you can wire as many subs as you want to a mono amp, as long as the amp supports the ohm load.. if his amp is 1 ohm stable and he has 2 dual 4ohm subs (for example), that'd be perfect. the number of channels has nothing to do with the number of speakers... its the impedence of the amp and subs..

The PDX won't make much of a difference. It is basically the high quality amp of Alpine. For a normal street beater system with a couple type R's the MRD would do just fine.

personally if it was me.. i would spend a little bit of money and upgrade to the type r's unless u have a space issue.. and ya there is really no big of a difference between the amps..id take the first.

i think he's already got or planning on getting type r's, he's just trying to choose between the 4 or 2 ohm options.
