My old Honda Prelude wouldn't start because the slave was messed up... I was just throwing out other ideas since the starter had already been mentioned :)

When you get it out test the starter with a pair of jumper cables and a battery. Use the negative cable to ground the case, use the positive to jump the solenoid. If it does NOT *crank* over than you know its the starter, if it does, well then you problem is else where.

Make sure you battery cables are tight and youre battery is in good condition.

Yeah, if you have the car in gear then it might not start, but if you put it in neutral it should still fire right up even with no clutch fluid or a bad slave cylinder...

In fact, even if its in first or reverse (which are the common parking gears) the starter should still turn the flywheel, the flywheel turn the tranny, the tranny turn the axles, the axles turn the tires and the tires would move the car, but none the less the start should still engage. :happy055:

Keep in mind it was an old P.O.S. Honda... you know, one of the ones that had 50million vacuum lines, but only needed 4 :p

ok, keep in mind, i love my car but shes got 189000 miles on her, i pulled the starter, the solenoid is part of it and has the main power wire from the battery, the wire to the starter and a third wire that is for whatever.....the third wire if grounded is the one that causes the starter to move out into the flywheel, the other two are obviously the power supply and the starter connection.......if i connect power to the supply side nothing happens, if i bypass it and go straight to the starter side the starter engages, if i have the third smaller wire grounded, then go to the starter side with power the starter does everything perfectly.......if i take and wire a 30 amp relay to provide power to the starter side of the solenoid will this fix the problem, or better yet will it kill the relay? i guess i should go get a ford type solonoid for this huh?

Are you getting fuel? We know your apparently not getting fire. If there is no fuel check your ignition switch, and tumbler. Make sure when you turn your key forward that your ignition wires register a voltage. I have seen a few vehicles with this problem, a real head sratcher. If there is any corrosion on the contacts on your ignition switch you will not get anything from your starter. How about the fuel pump, can you hear it buzzing when the key is turned forward? If that fails, get your dmm out and start tracing your ignition wires until you lose voltage. There is your problem.
