I need tweeters

maybe you might want to look at the DLS UR1 tweeters, i havent had any experience with them yet but they look pretty decent. im sure the ones that racerraul is talking about are great and maybe he has some listening time on the DLS and he could shed some light on them.

I actually have some seat time on 3 Diff DLS vehicles...
All 3 use the Flagship DLS tweeter UR1 (looks to be the same as the Iridium1)

On Steven Heads Civic & Jef Kidwells Mazda the UR1 sound as good as you would expect a softdome to sound... smooth, detailed without any harshness & fatigue... coincidentally both of these cars were tuned by Steven Head in Audionutz Ocala, FL...

Jason Willis cherokee uses the same tweeter, but for some reason, in his vehicle the tweeters seem thick & overly strong... obviously a tuning preferrence... I must say despite what I thought of them in his car, Jason has managed to win SBN & other national events & his car indeed sounds that good... His vehicle is the one I hope to go against when I make it to a national event...

The only issue I see with the UR1's would be the price... I expect them to be expensive since it is a Flagship model, Low Fs chambered design... defintiely a quality tweeters & the craftmanship when you hold them in your hand is obvioius...

actually i thought they would be alot higher than what they do cost. list price on them is 140 and thats with the mounting hardware and 2 tweets. i thought about using them in my all DLS ranchero the onlything that wont be dls is the deck of course.

$40 for a tweeter is very good if you consider ribbons that sell for $1800 each, or the esotars that go for around $1000/pair if I recall.
I guess it's a matter of what you want from the tweeters, and what you're willing to spend on them.

I guess I need to get out of my old frame of mind. In my day anything that cost $40 other than your speaker wire wasn't worth having. Even that could be iffy. If I can get a $40 pair of tweets that will nicely compliment my Utopia mids, I guess that's a great thing. I'm just worried about wasting $40 and building my door to fit a tweet I'm going to want to replace a couple weeks after putting it all together. You know what i mean. I guess I shouldn't be so quick to discount inexpensive mobile audio products these days. Thanks for the grounding guys. I guess, "you get what you pay for" doesn't mean the same thing it did 10 years ago.

no that still holds true for alot of stuff there are just a few loops to the phrase these days. on the retail end of mobile audio you mostly get what you pay for.

Most of the Car Audio market OEM's their speakers to speaker manufacturers... You can bet your rear ends that their costs is no where near retail. They determine that cost, no matter how good or crappy the product is...

So if you ask me... educating yourself about speaker performance is much better than basing your product purchase based on brand name, brand loyalty\preference &\or price...

But you can have multiple tweets advertising similar frequency responce, power handling, material type and construction, etc. But they sure don't sound the same. Also, it's difficult sometimes on these posts to get a feel for ones point of reference. What I mean by that is, if all they've ever listened to is Pyramid systems from radio shack installed by Joe Bagadoughnuts up the street, of course they're going to say brand x is a great speaker. Now ask a seasoned SQ competitor what he thinks of that same brand and he'll turn and walk away from you hoping you won't follow and annoy him the rest of the day. Or her. No offense to the ladies on the board. And I also didn't intend to make any references to the guy earlier with the inexpensive tweets. I was just trying to make a point.

My through process has been this ... I basically bought half of a $500-$1,000, depending on where you're shopping, speaker set for my Jeep. Now, I'm thinking, to get a comparible tweeter to make a set, I'm going to have to spend roughly $250-$500, not accounting for the Xover included in the set which was probably 1/3 the cost in the first place. Anyway, my point is, it's been difficult for me to come to grips with spending $40 on a tweet to match up with, lets say, $250 mid. You see where I'm coming from? Iv'e been too out of touch with things over the years to feel comfortable going off old intuition. That's why I'm reaching out to this board.

All the info I've collected from everyone has been great so far. It's given me a lot to look at and think about. Since I have already bought the mids and should be picking up some new speaker wire locally this weekend. I'd like to pick up some tweets soon so I can get my door project underway. I'd just like to make the first choice the right choice.

In addition to those listed above, Morel makes great small format tweeters, and are available on madisound. But for good quality, excellent value and top tier performance, I recommend you look at Hiquphon. Hiquphon tweeters are straight out fantastic, have good dispersion due to the smaller (3/4") dome, a smooth tonal quality and excellent dynamics. It would be a great match to that Focal mid IMO.

Or you could buy the Accuton Diamond Dome tweeters. Only a measly $2,600 per tweeter :)
