Dead Seagate Hard Drive

all drive companies have failures, and they are all about equal in that.
I've gone through crates of WD failures working for World Bank/IMF.
I'm using a pair of Seagate 320GB drives in a stripeset and have been using these for 3 years or so now. They work just fine for me. Just swap the drive and move on. Don't start distrusting the company for one drive failure. That causes paranoia when it comes to HDD companies. Trust me. I've been in the computer engineering field for decades now and seen pretty much anything you can imagine in that regard.

On that note, I am liking this core2quad box I just threw together. The GF 9800GTX works really well in triple SLI, too if anyone is considering that.

ive only had 1 harddrive failure an old 40 gig drive 2 years ago

I love broken HD's i tear em apart and take the Magnets out of them... they have all kinds of uses :)

Arggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning went to start the computer and got the disk boot error screen. I hit reset and she fired up right away...

So Im guessing this drive will be dead again! If it dies again replacement goes on E Bay and Im buying a WD.

I cant fricking believe this shit.

Ever since my last post the problem has just gotten worse. It went to every start it wouldnt work, now to taking 4-8 times resetting it to finally work.

I will never ever buy another Seagate product in my life. Their quality is shit.

You got some shitty luck my friend. we use segate at work exclusively because we were having issues with WD HDD. i believe they order 200 160gb HDD. and of the 200 45 of them failed out of the box and 25 more failed within 3 months. when they switched to segate i believe they had 1 failure. all 3 of the drives i use are segates and they work great. what do you have in your pc? are you using a hdd cooler?

I've been using Seagate drives and have been pretty happy with them. The one in my DVR just went out, but it's over 8 years old and is basically always doing something. So i think that's pretty good, and I replaced it with another Seagate.

Maybe there is a problem with the specific model drive your using?

Thats what Im thinking Chris. somethings up with this particular model. I see some reviews on New Egg with similar problem.

I has a hdd cooler on it but the bearing went out and I took it off. I figured the vibration wasnt helping...

Iwill probably pay the $20 for another replacement after I order a new drive next Friday and get it installed. I will either use the seagate as a spare drive in my pc or sell it off...
