You're lucky with a hatchback, though i duno how loud those mustangs get. I'd say a good place to start with box design would be a CRX style box. Sub up ports back. Works well in many hatch backs, but i'm not real familier with the ole' stangs. I'm sure bill or someone else might have a better idea on what those cars like to get loud. Mid 140's is a very respectable score. I think alotta guys don't realize how loud it is. Everyone wants to be in the 150's and has never even experienced it lol. Takes some work that's for sure.

140+ is loud for a daily driver. Anything more is starting to get uncomfortable for long periods of time.

I don't see him having any problems hitting low to mid 140's with the hatch.
We did a throw and roll (quick install) in my cousins durango and it did a 140.7 db.
2 12" type r's (4 cuft tuned to 35hz) running off a 1200.1.
He had like 550 into EVERYTHING including a used kenwood deck.
That's with a 4 gauge wiring (which is 17ft long ) and with a crappy battery. A box geared more towards spl, a new battery, big 3, and 2 gauge wiring would really help to improve his score.
Edit: He did replace the battery. We're going to do the big 3 and run new wire to the amp when we try another box design here shortly.

140 and 145 are a whole different ball game. Im not dogging on you but sure better wire new bat would gain you maybe .5 sry. You also just said you did a sub par install with 550 bucks and barely did a 40 i guess if you ask me thats not exactly easy.

Agreed^. That's my brother btw lol. Anyways, I wasn't trying to discourage anyone from shooting for a certain number, just be prepared to throw some cash in most cases. Not usually cheap to get loud.

And mobile, I agree! Low 40's is perfect for daily driving, but 50's is better

I don't think it's to unrealistic to believe that a box geared towards spl could gain a db or two. Were going to build a test box with easy to change ports, starting at 55hz and were going to start cutting until we stop gaining.

We're shooting for a 142 for his durango next time. I don't that to crazy of a number.

There's tons of people hitting mid 140s with a pair of r's. Heck, theres even a few hitting upper 40's, low 50's. They just invested a lot of time into doing so. Remember spkrman and his clam, they were all doing upper 140's or better.

Will it be easy to hit a 140? Ehh, no, but it shouldnt be insainely hard either,.

Will it be impossible to hit a 145? NO, but it will take some serious time and effort and be a real challenge.

In other words, if you don't try for a 145 it will never happen. Often it's not reaching your destination (145) that's the fun part, its the journey. That's why when people reach their goals they'll set new ones. It's revolution.

Changing the port frequency may gain you .25-.5 port width size and velocity will gain you way more.

That's the mind set you need to have and its commendable. Problem is ive been in those shoes and i've been heartbroken when something that should be easy 145 doesn't happen.

It took me 1 MT 15 and 2 4kw's to get a 148.9 in my blazer. Basically im telling you all this so when you try it if it doesnt happen your not discouraged. I know i quit for a while after trying and trying to hit 150 and failing numerous times because i got so discouraged. I dont want to see that happen to you.

With that being said i did use to talk to him on a regular basis and he would test ALL the time. When i say that i mean multipe hours daily, and the work paid off. I'm not sure what any of his legal scores were with the R's, but he was loud. And like bill said he did have a wall at one point. I'm pretty sure it was some sort of bandpass wall.

Mobile, good luck with the R's. I hope you do reach mid 45's. It's definitely possible, just keep testing! Do you have a TL? If not it makes it difficult to test regularly, but i'm sure theres a shop in your area with one.

Theres a shop around here that will let you meter for 10 bucks a pop. They said if we wanted to bring it up when they weren't real busy they'd let us try a few things...

One of the workers has a blazer with a single 18 solo x off a 2500.1 doing a 147 or 148 on the windshield, sealed, termlab.

If I can find a mustang soon I might look into a explorer... then I will try for some numbers, but if I get a mustang I don't want anything other then a headunit and some coaxials..
