Subs in truck

Post by Evanjl »

My buddy wants to install subs in his truck. He was a hard cover on the back and was wondering if he put the subs back there how the sound quality would be and if he could really even be able t0 hear them. I didnt know what to say because i have never seen or heard a set up like that. So my question is whether or not that is a good idead or not....i Was thinking we could even port the box into the cab but its a pretty new truck and i dont think he really wants to start cutting it up.

also how is the quality of the new sony subs that are out...any better then the older ones...lastly i was gonna recomend kicker CVRs with probably a crunch amp...if you guys have any better suggestions at about the same price range please share...or even maybe even run one 15" sub or what the hell maybe 2 15's

The way most people do that is- you got it- a blowthrough and that usually requires cutting up the bed and back of the cab, however, he could use a cap on the bed, and port it through the back window and not have to do any cutting

What kind of truck is it?

He could probably do a few 8's or maybe a pair of 10's behind the seats, just depends on what kind of truck it is... Let us know...

And steer him clear of the Sony equipment as the only thing that has improved is their head units... the subs and amps are still junk.

DD 1508's FTW!!

sorry.... got some i want to put in my single cab.

but if you want to go big system.... most people do a blow through. if he has a single cab truck.... fit some 8's or 10's behind the seats or build a center console for some 12's. if its extended cab or crew cab.... fold up half the seat and put a box back there or again... 8's or 10's but this time under the rear seats.

Yeah I agree with mike sony subs and amps are still junk.

How much room does he have behind the seats?? I know it has been asked but it is a vital question.

I seen a dude about 3 months ago had a box with 4 Pioneer Premier 12's. He didn't have near enough power but it still hit pretty good, he had an extended cab.
I put 2 12's behind the seat in a single cab Ford Ranger, it took some work, and the dude had to move his seat up some but we did it.

Tell him to cruise over to Fiberglass forums.com. They got lotsa truck systems, he could get some ideas there.

How much does he want to spend?? what is the budget like??

his truck is a silverado single cab i think havent seen it in awhile....but guess the subs in the bed without porting into the cab is a bad idea then cuz no one really said it was a good one. As for space ill probably see him this weekend soo ill take a look

silverado's have decent space. seen up to decent sized 12's fit behind the seats... so really it can be done. without doing a blow through... putting the subs in the bed is really not a good idea. you would get no quality of sound into the cabin, it will all just be in the bed.

Subs in the bed WITH a blowthrough isn't a bad idea at all, it's just that you stated earlier that you thought he didn't want to be cutting up his truck.
If he doesn't want to do cutting for larger subs that require more space then he could probably get away with 2) smaller 12"s
