I have no clue about speakers or decka or anything of that matter so i decided to come on here to see if the people who do could help me. In the past week i have gotten a cd player installed in my car and also new rear speakers installed. I have had the speakers put in for about 2 days now and today all four speakers started scretching on and off. Now i dont have any sound from my speakers and the deck acts as though it is playing. The cd timer goes on the radio stations change and it seems as though its playing but there is not sound...what could have happened ....i hope i didnt blow the speakers i just got new ones put in...please help wit any ideas!!Thanks

if you or a friend has the technical know how, and for surely knows what they are doing, have them check the connections from the speaker wires to the deck.... or see if any of the connections are touching metal... but if anything else take it back to the place that installed it. and tell them to check it and it better be for free because They installed it.

It sounds like they didn't do a very good job on the install. Most likely its a bad conection somewhere. Take it in and have them fix it, and yes they should do it for free. Do not let them tell you that all 4 speakers are blown, and you have to replace them. Its far more likely the amp in the head unit went out (which should be under warranty).

from the sound of things, the installer didn't tape his connections well and one grounded out. this in turn shorted out teh amplifier inside the new CD player and killed it. that'd be why there's no sound.
This could be bad wiring at the radio ro at the new speakers. either spot would cause the same effect.

take the car back to where it was installed and have it serviced. any good shop should cover installations for life.

I know tape is cheaper, but why don't stereo shops shrink tubing their conections? It only takes a few min longer to sodder and shrink tube the wires for a deck install, and in the end it would save them hours of repair work.

Hmmmmmmmm sounds like an idea for a FAQ to me.

because soldering and shrink tubing cost more and take longer. that adds up quickly in both money and time for a business.
Especially when 95% of your business is Soccer Mom in her Mini-Van or SUV who wants a simple radio or pair of speakers to replace the one her kid stuffed a jelly sandwich into last week, and she wants it as cheaply as she can get it. Very very few of the people you do systems for at a shop are high or even middle end system customers. Most are cheap, stingy old people who don't really want to be there in the first place, but feel they have no choice, or young kids with no money and even less sense who just want to waste your time talking when your reason to be there is to make money. They however can't understand that and feel they deserve equal time because some day 15 years from now when they actually do have money, your shop has gone out of business, and you're retired, they're going to come back to rub it in your face.. or something. :shrug:

that's pretty much the reason.
tape is fast, cheap, and if you use good tape, usually effective.

I don't know I guess i am spoiled, so I spoil the people I do installs for. The place that did my last stereo, and has done all of my alarms, sodders and shrink tubes EVERYTHING they do. Alarms, decks, everything, then again they are one of the best shops in OK, and always have been.

I am also used to the fighter world, were a sharp turn can multiply the weight of a wire or component by 9 times its own weight. So every conection we do, has to be strong as hell.

I guess in the end, it only takes me about five min to sodder a wiring harness for your average deck install together, so I see it from a diffrent point of view than alot of other people.

The same thing happened to me. I installed an amp into my Honda Accord but never really had good subs so I just kinda had it wiring disconnected from the amp, well the power wire anyways. Then I blew one of my rear stock speakers so I decided to replace both of them with 2 Sony Xplod 6x9 4 channel speakers. A week later, I bought 2 Pyramid 12" subs. I hooked it up to my amp and it seemed to work fine. The next day I was on my way to work and heard this crackling sound come from my speakers and then they just cut out. Well I didn't have time to deal with them at the time but on my break, I went out and started my car up, and they were working, until about 5 minutes later when I heard that crackling sound again and out they went, again. And ever since I haven't had any speakers to work, but my subs still work. All I can thing of is that somewhere there is a bare wire somewhere and its touching metal and to protect the speakers, the headunit isn't sending a message to them, but I really have no idea.
