Comparison on subs

Well i'm sure everyone has read my previous threads about the 2 12" soundstream tarantulas i've been planning on getting. Well I talked to a guy from another forum today and he swears a better buy would be one 15" REsx sub. It is cheaper than both of the 12's and i've heard a lot of good thing about RE subs. He also says this will be louder in a large ported enclosure than both the soundstreams would. Also he's trying to convince me to build the box myself and will even give me full instructions on everything to build it. Hell of a nice guy. What do you think on this?

I would personally choose the single 15" RE SX over the Soundstreams. Whether which will be louder is uncertain, but I think the RE will be a better product. I haven't liked Soundstream since they got bought out, so I guess I'm being biased.

If the pair of 12's and the 15 were both put in the perfect enclosure wqith ideal power, the 12's should be louder, just because of cone area.

Thanks guys for your input. I'll probably go with the RE, because even if its not quite as loud i know it should be fairly loud still and also be a better quality sub. Also i'm under the impression that 15's generally perform better at lower bass than 12's and because i normally listen to rap while i'm in my jeep, it should be a good match. What do you guys think?

12's generally get as low as 30hz or so and 15s get around 28. That is usually how you tune the enclosures at least. Most rap doesn't use as low of a frequency as you think. Most is around the 35-60hz area.

gotta remember soundstream is owned by power craptastik now, too.
the RE is going to be a better built sub. Even if it's not quite as loud, it'll have a totally different feel to it than two twelves, too.
