Ribbon Tweets

Ok, I've been reading lots of stuff lately trying to get a feel for what's what these days. I read a post on a different site that went into pretty good depth on the ins and outs of ribbons. One of the ones they mentioned I thought looked really good. I was wondering what you guys thought about LCY 130 ribbons? They seem to have the efficient and awesome resonse of a ribbon without the off-axis loss. If the info provided was accurate. Thoughts?

I have personally not had the pleasure of listening to a ribbon, but many people @ DIYmobileaudio swear by them...
Kinda pricey for the noisy car environment if you ask me, but if you compete all the auditioning is done parked & the benefits may well be worth it.
I hope to soon be able to experience myself what the rave is all about ribbons & certain Seas drivers I'm interested in...

On a different thread you mentioned the importance of you not wanting to make a mistake & buy something you may not like & having to redo the installation work to change....
When I work on my installs I leave the speakers for last... I get all the wiring done 1st, then get all my amps & processors done. This way I have the power available when installing my speakers.
Since I am huge on 3-way setups (T,M, MB) up front... aiming my mids & tweets is a must... so I use towels & double sided tape to listen to the mids & tweets in diffenrent potential install locations to audition 1st Before I start any fabrication... Once I have decided what works in the current vehicle I then proceed with fabrication.
During this process I always find weather a certain driver will work or not, or even If I don't care for how it sounds in the car. So I always know if I am indeed sure if I am going to use a driver before the fabrication process...

LCY makes nice ribbons.. most people don't use them due to the price really.. they're more common in home audio for high end cabinets. off axis isn't much of a problem if you fiberglass the locations for them.. then you just point them and have on-axis signal paths.. that's pretty much what I do with my front stage, even without using ribbons. I just hate off-axis issues with phase shift and getting everything to sound right. too much effort.
yeah if you want to really make those ribbons sing, use active crossovers and amplify everything separately.. gives a lot more control over the XO points, and a much finer way to tune things.

All my wiring is already in and I'm still using my PG 6300 (50x4 plus 150x2, currently running at 100x2 plus 300x1) I have to do it in stages. So, I'm buying the front speakers so I can get the crap out that in there now. I'll continue using my amp only I'll rewire it so it's putting 50 to mids and 50 to tweets and subs will remain as they are for now. I'll be mounting the mid in the door and probably fiberglass something in the kick panels for the tweets. My kick area is small so I don't think I'd be able to get them both in there comfortably.

Keep in mind that a ribbon has fantastic horizontal dispersion, it's vertical dispersion that needs the most attention. Meaning, if you're 6'2", and your girlfriend is 5'7, both of you will get different results. Not that most girlfriends give a crap about tweeters anyway.

i had a set of lcy 108's in my explorer for a bit, matched with seas ca18rnx 7" mids,sq was awesome, but only really good with the tweets up on the dash. i found that with them in the kicks,they weren't "loud" enough to keep up with the mids, could be just the wat the kick area is in that vehicle? ayhoo,they were too damn big for the dash,so i went back to a conventional tweet.
just my 2 cents
