Sub Mounting

What size screws do you guys normally use for mounting a sub to a box?
I have 12" subs and i thought they came with screws but they don't. I made my box out of 3/4" MDF

1" drywall screws work well

On my last box, I used machine screws and T-nuts. I advise that if you plan on removing the sub multiple times so that you don't tear up the MDF too bad.

I agree with William. Another thing to note is that you can use an allen head, torx, robertson, and other screw heads so that a thief can't take a sub out with a common screwdriver. OnYrMrk has displayed this with his system.

A common thief will carry allen wrenches and torx bits with them. If they are smart enough to get into your trunk, they are smart enough to bring the right tools.

yea but most dont have the tools to remove these types of screws ifyou use those its a little bit safer.

The ones around here aren't too smart, or professional :) There are always other security screws as well, tri wings, snake eyes, socket pin head, opsit, lots of options.

I use the spanner screws that Bill showed with his link. Every piece of equipment in my car is screwed down with three different types of spanner screws.

Or just alternate different screws. It takes more time to put in and take out for you, but in most cases too much time for a thief to mess with.
If you are doing a one time install, or when you adjust everything to its final dimensions and you are sure you wont need to take it out...do a flush mount. Carve into the MDF enough so that the subs' frame is flush with the board, screw it down and putty or carpet over the edge around the sub. Or you can just putty the screw heads...a knife will clean it out, but again...it will take more time than a thief is usually wanting to spend.
