well, to stiffen up the frame a bit (ahh good ol' unibodies) I decided to weld in some cross-member sub-frame connectors. I'm thinking 3/8th inch square tubing to keep the body from twisting so much.. maybe make the car last longer.. haha I've decided over 600lb-ft of torque does ugly things to unibody subframes.

I'll be adding this to my to-do list now that I pulled out the motor today, and will get the tranny out later. Hopefully next week or so I'll be sending the body off and get into tearing the motor down, to send the block off for recon.

Yeah, subframe connectors are definitely a necessity with those old cars. I still need to put some on my Cuda. 425+hp and 4 spd tranny likes to tear up the old car. I believe you said yours in an auto, but over 500hp. You would definitely need those.

What type of Mopar? What Motor?

its the same way with the old camaros they are unibody too. i think you forgot a 0 on your torque kiki.

Yeah, I had that problem with the 67 Mustang I had with the 427 SOHC in it. I welded solid plate at the rocker panel (below the door) up to the cowl of the car. Then I welded in plate on both front and rear torque boxes. Fabricated a new outside frame rail that ran the length of the car, and made a joining plate to tie that in with both inside frame rails. Last thing was end caps for the joining plate. It strengthed the car a ton. I probably could have gotten a little fancier by adding some cross bracing.

Dunno how the Chargers are set up, though.

can you believe our heat pump compressor failed again after I replaced it a year ago? thankfully this time it's under warranty.. crappy things. anyway no heat in the house so its like 60 in here. It's warmer in the garage with the heated floors (different boiler for those) so I go out thre to work. haha
SVO, it's a '66 Charger with a 440 hipo block (magnum) bored and stroked to 493.
yeah Sinister, it's going off for paint and to go up on a lift for the connecting beams to be put in since I can't really get under it enough to do that and do it right.

motor teardown from this weekend

under the car pulling the transmission out.
old front bumper is bent up, but handy to stick on the car when pulling the motor out. keeps me from dinging up the good bumpers with teh shop crane.
Car is de-chromed at the moment, too. Looking for a good shop that does rechroming for some of the parts on the car.
Need to find a good powdercoater, too.
