getting gains, crossovers, eq's, and HU level prof. set

here;s the deal, i got 2 kicker amps (KX400.1 & KX650.4), 2 pairs of component speakers (pioneer ts-c160r), a 10" sub in a sealed enclosure (alpine type R swr-1042D), and an Alpine CDA-9856 HU w/ iPod connection cable installed yesterday at bestbuy.
i went with bestbuy bc they were really cheap (i didnt buy any of the equipment there) and especially since the car is leased, they will uninstall all the aftermarket gear and reinstall the stock equipment free of charge.
however, they spent very little time setting the gains, crossovers, and eq's.
yesterday was the first time i ever touched an amp, and while i have come a long way since i began looking at systems (my first move was to bid on a 4 channel amp on ebay for the purposes of powering a single subwoofer, basically i had no idea).
the big reason is that i have law finals a week from friday and i cant spend the time it will take to get it perfect, and i want it sounding like it costs as much as it did.
on to the question: i want to set it up so that it is very crisp, and that heavy-metal-double-bass-drum lines, even when pretty fast, will be distinct thumps (right now they are meshing into a single growl).
basically, i dont wanna go in this place and tell this guy what i want, and have him not understand what i am getting at. in terms of terminology, i wouldnt know where to start, and thats no good bc if i dont give him something specific to do, he will most likely be a little more half-assed about it.
basically, i want the end of the song 'one' by metallica (ill 7 note double bass lines each bar) to sound great. however any other types of music will sound based on that set up is pretty inconsequential, because that song is the epitome of what i live for.
sorry that was rather long winded and indirect, appreciate u guys helping a newbie out. i promise my next system, i will be the man at this sh*t by then.
furthermore, there's seemingly infinite ways to customize the sound thru the alpine head unit.
