Had some extra time today so I ran to kragens and picked up some Megiaurs Next Tech wax.

Went by the intrstructions, and used the hand applicator. I think I went overboard on the hood and part of the side. Put a too much wax I think, but nevertheless it came off. Lowered the amount of wax on the sides of the car however.

I only did one side of the car at a time, Ie the hood, then wait a bit, and then wiped it off.

When I was finished, I was satisfied. However, there is one thing, I was feeling around, and the side of the car feels really smooth, however on the hood, when I run my hand over, it feels like there are small little bumps on the hood. Not very big at all, and not noticable.

Is this normal? Is it just some debri or dust or did I put too much wax on?

How smooth should the car feel?

Did you wash the car before you waxed it?

The small bumps could be dirt or something of the like. Could be too much wax, but i think you would see the wax built up. Not too sure, i dont detail too often.

step 1: First you should always wash the car first, and dry!

step 2: for fairly cheep you can get a bar of something called auto clay, it is a block of clay that you put on your hand and just rub it over the srufice of the car, (instructions on the box) this will most likly solve the problem of your hood being not as smooth as you would like seing as it pulls up all improfections from the paint, it will also revmove those swirls that you can get and makes a noticable difference in the paint

Step 3: go with a nice c-something based wax, the old fashion kind in the tin, i reccemend mothers caifornia gold, its what i used works gerat, the trick is to use a little wax and rub it in with bigtime elbow grease, then when it turns white take like a diaper cloth and just whipe it off

Yah I figure its probably contaminents. I did wash my car. But it doesn't bother me, I'm satisfied with the wax results.

I always wash the car, and then if it's been awhile since I've waxed it, I will first use a cleaner wax.

Then I'll use some S-100 and it really makes it shine.

I've been thinking trying the claybar, heard good things about them.

I second that auto clay. I have used it on my Mercedes, my wife's Isuzu, and my motorcycle. My car has the clear peeling from it, so I don't use it on the lincoln. Excellent. Plus Mother's offers the clay bar, and the california gold carnuba wax.

I also have used Zybol in the past, expensive stuff, but excellent nonetheless.

how much did that zybol stuff cost? i'm thinkin of doing the DIY stuff as well but its way too much effort sometimes.

I bought a bottle of that once. I think it was like $20

i'm triyng to get my car to a point where i can sell it and get decent money for it, preferably more than i bought it for (which won't be hard. when i bought the car the water pump was shot, the alternator was going, and the alignment was way off) anyway today i picked up:

Mothers California Clay Bar kit, includes the clay bar, carnauba cleaner wax, showtime instant detailer... speaking of this... it acme with a very small bar of clay, will this work? its like 1.5"x2'
A 3 pack of terry towels
A pack of terry-cotton pads
can of mothers california gold carnuaba cleaner wax
and then i also got some mothers back-to-black stuff im planning on using on my bumpers (as they're black)
is this basically what i need to get a good wax job? i'm going to pick up a few more towels too.
