ok im building a ported box i have it all planned but the only thing i am wondering is calculating the space the subs and ports will take up

should i just guesstamate a little and just add a little space

or just not worry about that space

The sub displacement you can get from the manufacturer, the port displacement is figured out just like you would figure out your box volume.

ok i looked at my papers that came with my sub and could find anything that resembles the displacement of it

is it really going to effect my performance if the box is off a few cubic inches or so

the subs are infinity refrence 1050's

How's this for a simple answer...
Infinity's website has a pdf for box dimensions for your subs
http://manuals.harman.com/INF/CAR/Boxes%20and%20Parameters/1050W.pdf
You don't get much simpler than that :happy055:

yea i have looked at that but i'm going to tune the box to 34 Hz becasue that is what someone on here told me to tune it to said that that would be best

but thanks anyways can probably find something useful on those pages

also on a side note....does MDF come in boards or sheets

If you haven't built/designed a box before, I would just follow Infinity's recommendations.
MDF comes in sheets, as does most wood. I believe the Homer Depot and Lowes will pre cut the sheet for you. Not sure if it costs extra or whatever though.

Depot ussually gives you 2 cuts at no charge... sometimes you get lucky though and you get someone that doesn't know to charge for the extra cuts :)

ok so it comes in like sheets more than one foot wide becasue im pretty sure patical board the widest you can get is one foot wide....which would mean ill have to glue boards together which is a pain

also i forget who told me but they took some specs off the subs and then said 34 hz would be best to turn it to?
